There is a new pill (RU-486) that is out now nicknamed "The Abortion Pill". It is for women who are 8 weeks pregnant or less and are seeking a non-surgical way to terminate the pregnancy. Do you feel that taking this pill is morally equal to having an abortion? Or do you feel that taking this pill will leave a woman with less guilt than by having a surgical abortion? Please explain your reasoning behind your answer.

first of all the pill is used so u dont become pregnant. they would never give the pill to someone who is pregnant. once u have become pregnant u have to have an abortion.

I am prochoice, and believe that is a choice the woman in question should be making. Yes it may be less guilt causing.

I know I could never have a true abortion, but I do think that yes, I could & would take the pill if I happened up preggy. At 8 weeks it is not a baby, it is not formed & most importantly it doesn't have a soul yet. Basically all the pill does is cause you to have a miscarriage & I can deal with that because I've had a miscarriage once before. I did some research about the pill for a friend of mine & I wanted her to use it instead of having a normal abortion, but she chose the regular way...

I think it is the right of a woman to see that as abortion or not. It's a very gray area to me. If it was a full abortion I am against it, but I am not against the morning after pill if something happens but this is the first that I have heard of a pill that can end the pregnancy up to 8 weeks in. I guess really it is abortion whether it is for the right or wrong reasons. I do feel that there are legitamite reasons to have an abortion... like rape, health, ect. I do feel that it is better if the pregnancy is going to be terminated that I happen before the baby truely starts developeing. I can't stand those that wait to make up their minds about 3+ months in. There is no justification for that unless health problems exist that would kill the mother and child anyways.

I do belive that it is up to every individual to decide. I belive that there should be a free choise and I donĀ“t even consider abortion murder.

Personally i would never have an abortion, although i wouldnt tell someone else they are wrong if they were to have one as it is a personal decision for that person to make.

I am not comfortable with the idea of abortion at any stage but I think it is wrong to compare the abortion of a 3 week old fetus with a 7 months old one. I know these are extreme ends of the scale and I know both are alive. But the reason I think availability of that pill could be a good thing maybe or at least better than surgical abortion is becuase if it were more widely available then people would be more likely to end their pregnancies at an earlier stage than later. If you are going to have an abortion at least do it at as early a stage as is possible.

Actually a 3 week old fetus and a 7 month old both have pain receptors.. so they both feel the same thing.

I also think that it is up to the individual. As for myself If I was raped then I don't know what I would do. I know that the right thing to do would to keep the child because it's not their fault but i honestly do not know. I think that it would be easier for a person to take the pill rather than have it surgically removed. I hope that I am never put in this situation to have to deciede.

I think that it is up to the individual as to whether they would feel guilty in either case. Personally, if the fetus is not even formed, I don't understand people who call it murder. But those are just my views. I don't _like_ the idea of abortion, but I agree with free choice. I do think that the pill is a much easier way for a woman to have an abortion, though, and I do see how some women might see it as a less guilt-ridden way to do it, simply becuase it seems easier and less stressful than an operation that you have to give an awfu lot of thought to before it happens.

My views are similar to yours shywolf - I don't understand people who call it murder either? It is the woman's body - her life, her choice. I think we are in the minority here though.

Yes, I think it's abortion any way you do it. I don't know how any woman can not feel guilty at some point in her life about having an abortion. I have always believed that life begins at the moment of conception. Abortion is taking away a life that God has given you, and only God should take life away.

It is just equally immoral. It is still a method of abortion. Or disposing of a fetus that should have been a baby. A cute little baby. But I don't criticize women who had abortion for I did once thought of that but my conscience didn't let me do it. I know how hard it is to decide whether to have an abortion or not. Still, I give two thumbs up to every woman who went through this situation but survived. Whether they decided to continue motherhood or not.

I believe it is morally equal to having a surgical abortion. Even though the woman may feel less guilty, deep down its the same thing. However, if this method is truly effective, it may be a good alternative to aborting because alot of women get depressed and psychologicly instable after aborting.

Basically, this pill causes a woman to have a miscarriage. The fetus is passed through the body the same way as it would be if a woman were having a miscarriage.

It's deffinitely not AS bad...but it's deffinitely bad...you're still killing an innocent child that has no way of defending itself...it's not the baby's fault the mother can't keep her legs closed.

As I've pointed out before on previous replies, sometimes the resulting pregnancy is due to rape. Would it still be wrong in that case?

Abortion is abortion no matter if it is by pill or by knife and it is murder. A case can be made as to weather it is a life or not due to the fact that it has yet to be born but at the moment of conception it becomes a life. If she did not want to get pregnant she should have kept her legs closed and she would not be in the situation. If it is a rape situation there should be no guilt for abortion or if the child is endangering the mother's life, but an abortion just to get rid of a baby that was willingly caused is no less than MURDER!! Thank you for the good topic and have a great day!!

It depends on when you consider a life to begin. If people believe that life begins at conception then to them they feel like they are taking a life. If you believe that conciousness and a soul does not form to much later in the pregancy and you do not want to be pregnant then you should be able to proceed guilt-free. Personally I believe it is more of a crime to bring a unwanted child into this world than to terminate it. If there is a god and god is just and loving then god will allow that soul to be born into a family that is able to financilly care for that child and is emotionally able to deal with the responseability and love it.

I don't think it's any different on a moral level whether to have a surgical abortion or a medical abortion. But I don't have a problem with abortion in the first place.

Yes it's morally equal. In whichever way, it's the same thing you're killing an innocent human being. Every little thing who has life has the right to be alive in this world. No one has the right to decide for its own fate. Only the Creator knows our fate.

Yes and I think maybe people should understand that they are killing a being that has a heart because once you find out your pregnant your child has a heart beat already!! HOW SAD!!
