Do you groom your pet or do you take them to the vet? When we had large dogs we did the baths and toenails at the house. Now we have smaller dogs, miniture pincher and miniture pincher/chiuawia. Well needlees to say they do not like for thier toes to be messed with. We are now taking them to the vets for Ears,Nose,& Toes.. It is about time to have thier teeth cleaned. I wouldn't even try that with these girls, Wondering if anyone uses chain places like Petsco or Petsmart. Are these groomers or just employees?

Mini Dachshund - Miniature dachshund puppy
We do our own grooming here too with mini dachshunds. I found that if they get used to the nail clippings at a young age, they behave and tolerate it much better:) I know the Petsmart here has a regular Vet. Since it is a chain, it should be the same.

i groom my pet. i have a dog. a cross between a spaniel and a spitz. she's really friendly, not to mention intelligent. i groom her, and do it fairly well. i think she likes it. she sits all comfy, it's not hard at all. but scared of water she is, and manages to give anyone a problem with baths. i do take her to the vet for medical checkups and for some advice about this or that for dogs her age, but that's about it. and she's fine.

I used Petsmart once for my cat. They are groomers, but their fees are high. I now groom my own cats. I clip their nails and brush them daily. Some of the vets have groomers too, and more reasonable.

I am a pro pey groomer so needless to say I groom my own dogs .I see nothing wrong with owners grooming thier pets .I don't really brush the dogs teeth when I groom them .I should start offering that, but really to help the teeth need brushed at least twice a week, not once every four weeks that is when they get groomed or even less . The people at petsmart and petco are trained groomers trained by that company . As I am a small groomer I would suggest you try them not a chain but some prefer chains .

I have noticed a couple of privatly owned groomers around here. I may call them up. I thought of taking them to the vet for a teeth cleaning. Don't they have to be put to sleep so the hygenist can really clean them?

yes they do .I know some people use a scaler and clean the dogs teeth them selves but the dog has to get use to this and some dogs never do most of all if a tooth already hurts. You can add things to the water that help remove tarter oxyfresh is what I have used and it did great .If you have a dog that chew on raw hide or other chewies they make certain ones specially for removing tarter .

I groom my lab and 2 Rotts but my Golden Retriever/ Great Pyrenees goes to the groomer. I do brush her (and the other 3) every night to stay on top of it, but she still goes in once a month for grooming and bathing. She's 90 lbs and 9mo and has a LOT of hair! They are all 4 going in to get their nails trimmed this weekend though, I do not do that! I've used Petsmart and was happy with the work they did but it's 30 minutes away and there is a small groomer here in my town that does a great job too.

We actually have a mobile grooming service that comes to the house and does it here. We have been using them for ages and thy are great. We get the same person every time. We have a miniature schnauzer that doesn't really enjoy getting clipped...so doing it this way takes out some of the displeasure for her...she doesn't have to sit in a kennel at the shop for 5 hours.

animals and grooming them - animals such as cats and dogs and who in the house grooms them
I dont mind grooming my animals. I will do the baths and brushing and stuff. I hate to clip toenails though. I am always afraid that I will hurt them. I dont mess with their ears or teeth.

i groom my own pet..my dog is japanese spitz and a little combing of the hair will do..Most top breed dogs have really sensitive gums but i have to brush my dogs teeth regularly. Im treating my dog like human :) And even my dogs is old right now (age 10 yrs) I still make sure she's up for the grooves...clean dogs are really love to cuddle.

we are the ones who groom our pets.. actually its really had to groom them because they have thick furs... but its ok because they are so cute... sometimes i pity them when we take them to a bath because they feel cold but its really nice to have them to bath to make there fur softer to comb...^^

generally the people at places like petsmart are just employees but they sometimes do have specialists in there aswell. i would advise looking in your local directory for pet grooming parlours.

We take ours to a groomer. When we moved into our new house, we didn't have any tubs put in, because no one in my family likes to take baths. So we just had stand up showers with seats put in. Well, we have two St. Bernards and a lab, and they don't fit in there!! so we have to take them to the groomers to have all of their cleanings done, and their teeth ect. Theye love it. You can see them when they get home walking around like they are the stuff. They feel good and you can see it on them.

I guess it would be tough to use one of those wands in the shower. I like to bathe my dogs outside when the weather permits. But then they like to run and role in the dirt! Sounds like they enjoy it!

I groom our dog. As I find it to be very expensive to take them in to some of these places. I haven't checked the prices though, but I don't think it would cost all to much to get her groomed. It may be something I'd think of doing in the near distant future.. But in my eyes.. She is not a big dog, & it's not like she has a lot of fur compared to a lot of dogs. But my ex's mother used to be a groomer & before me & her son broke up she showed me several times on how to cut a dogs nails. And I do it all the time & my dog will not try to bite me or claw at me when I do this. All she does is just try to get her nose in the way. haha. Usually someone just needs to hold her head when I am trimming her nails. I know when I am cutting her nails I will praise her, & then when I am finished I will give her a treat & then praise her again. I as well brush her on a regular basis as she is laying down on the bed or sitting on the floor. She absolutely loves to be brushed. She will just sit there or lay there with her eyes closed while I do it.. I enjoy doing this each day as it helps to get rid of her excess hair. It as well gives her some breathing room from her hoodie that we put on her regularly. I then brush her teeth with the stuff I had gotten from the pet store.. I also talked to an expert & got them to explain things to me on what type of tooth paste would be right for my dog.. I think this is my dogs least favorite thing to be done to her.. She is not a big fan of this & will try to squirm.. But I think afterwards she feels a lot better because her mouth is then a lot cleaner then it was. haha. I think if you have the right tools & so forth that you can do it on your own.. But if you have a dog that has a lot of fur then a lot of dog owners need to take them in.. I think it takes a lot of patience to do it on your own but it doesn't bother me one bit.. I may think of taking her in eventually to get done but for now I think I'm doing a great job on my own! . .

Sounds like you spend alot of time taking care of her. I find it relaxing to brush thier hair and love on them. Mine also just lay there and don't want you you to stop brushing. My two dogs do not have alot of hair and I don't brush them daily. After bathing my oldest she loves for me to use the blow dryer... My youngest just runs from it.

I groom my own dog. Except for his nails. The pink part of the nail....I have no idea what it's called, is longer than usually, so I'm afraid to cut them myself. I take him to a groomer to do. It's only $10, so no big deal.

I do the majority of the grooming throughout the year, but about 2 times a year I will take my dog into Petco for full groom. I do not clip her nails, but she is very active and files them quite well that I only take maybe 2 additional time throughout the year to Petco. I do not know if these are actual groomers, I have no complaints about their work! They are have been friendly and very good with the dogs! Especially the first time I brought her. She shook the entire time because she was so nervous, but now knows it is actually fun and get a treat too:) CC
