Grissom's Replacement

So what do you think of the new guy replacing Grissom on CSI? Do you like him? Perhaps it is too early to tell because we all liked Grissom so much. Perhaps if it was an actor who we have seen before we might like him a bit better (though I'm not crazy about Chris Noth on L&O:CI). I don't think anyone will ever replace Grissom, and hopefully he will return. As for the new guy, don't much like him.

I watched last night. It was an interesting episode. As for the new guy, Keppler(?), I didn't think he did all that bad of a job. The cast seemed to interact well with him from what I saw. He is no Grissom though, I'll give you that. I too hope Grissom comes back after his sabbattical. At least they left it open for his return in the future. I think we will just have to wait and see how Keppler turns out, one show just isn't enough to tell by.

What are you talking about? Grisom can not leave forever. He is only taking a little time to teach. This new guy could never replace Gil.
Now to be real. I thought the actor was working on a movie and was coming back. I thought this was just a temperary thing.
I don't think the show will be the same without him.

I barely read your discussion and had to stop as I had to tape last night's CSI and have not watched it yet.I don't want to ruin the surprise.
Gtrissom as a character has made no bones about taking a hiatus and it sounds like it is going to bear fruit. He is such an integral part of the show that I will be wondering how they will do as a series with him out.
For CBS,this is a gamble I am hoping it will allow some of the other actors to step forward, but without some type of character change occuring, none seem capable of doing so.
Of course if/when he returns,it will be great for short-time ratings IF the damage has not already been done.

He will be back in four weeeks, just keep thinking that and maybe it will come true. It will take some time to get use to him. He was interesting to say the least. I'm thinking there will always be some sort of conflict with him. Next week looked pretty interesting. They try to reinact a crime scene and he seems to be making trouble doing it. The other CSIs look like they ban together against him. It will be interesting. Glad to see I'm not the only one here that follows CSI. P.S. the miniture killer was from Ames Iowa....guess where I'm typing form right now? That totally freaked me out. Cool, but still freaky.

It's almost like typecasting only in reverse! Actors complaian about the fact that once they play a certain type of role, folks can't seem to see them in a very different or opposite role. Kind of good guy/bad guy roles. Having a new guy for Grissom's role is very similar. We are so accustomed to Grissom, that is is hard to imagine anyone else. No matter who was cast, we would be comparing them, even unconsiously, to Grissom! There is no way to get around it! After he has been there a while, we will likely be more okay with him. But,we will always have a comparison. And because there is a comparison, we will have a favorite!

well i have seen this as well and i too do not like it that much at all.maybe the producers of the show will realise thier mistake and bring the grissom back.also i think that they do need to tweak the storylines a little bit as of recently the stories on csi ihas been getting a little too tame and boring!

According to dialogue on last week's show, Grissom has gone on a 4-week teaching sabbatical. As for the actor in real life, there are varying stories. No one knows for sure whether he will return but dialogue says otherwise. Here's hoping he comes back. We have to find out about the box on his desk!

I must have been out of the loop for too long. I didn't know Grissom was leaving or even left. Why did he leave? He really made the show. I know there are other versions of CSI, but they just don't seem to be as good as the original series.

It's always hard to accept new actors/characters on our favorite shows, but we get used to them if we give them a fair chance. Remember M*A*S*H? And a bunch of others.
I heard Peterson was going to do a play for 4 weeks. Maybe he'll be back. In the meantime, I'm finding Keppler to be quite intriguing and enigmatic. Should be interesting.

The only problem is that 4 weeks in their time (TV) does not necessarily add up to 4 weeks in our time (4 episodes). Four weeks could be the whole season if one episode that follows another is actually the next day in their time.
I don't always get used to new characters. M*A*S*H* was a comedy AND that was back when writing was superb. Times have changed. Stations now have to resort to reality television instead of sitcoms. I have not gotten used to the new DA on L&O, nor the new cop. I STILL have not gotten used to the DA on L&O:SVU, or the new captain and DA on L&O:CI. As for CSI:NY, someone mentioned earlier Lindsay. I liked her immediately but I had seen her on another shortlived TV medical drama the year before she joined CSI.

Good point about the perceived time frame in TV shows. I'm just going on what Grissom said to Nick about being back in four weeks, and I heard that Liev was doing four shows.
And I have to agree that I don't always get used to new characters either. For me, it goes to whether or not I like the actor, the writing for the new character and how he/she meshes with the old characters. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

So far, I don't like him. The ratings here in Canada show that not many people like him either. Ever since Grissom left, the ratings dropped from number 1 to number 6.
There is something completely sketchy about him, his character I mean. He is kinda creepy too.

I think he is an excellent actor. I'm not real sure on his character on CSI, though. But it generally takes several episodes to decide. Like Lindsay on CSI:NY. I wasn't real sure if I would like her at first, but now she is probably my favorite character. Well, except Danny. :)
I would like to see Grissom return as well. I like almost the entire cast of the original CSI. With the exception of Katherine that is. I think Keppler might make a good addition.

Hmmm, not bad but I'll have to see more in order to warm up to him.Grissom was the whole reason I got hooked on CSI in the first place.I'm hoping they'll bring him back in a recuring role.Say he got a promotion or retired and they call him in on the really tough cases.I would hate to see him gone from the series entirely.

This is the first time that I have heard about Grissom leaving CSI. I do not think that there is anyone to replace him. Grissom was very good. Why was Grisson replaced? Does antone know the real reason that he is no longer going to be on CSI?

To early to tell yet I think. Grissom was my favorite character on CSI. I'm hoping he will continue to make appearances on the show. But I have always enjoyed the shows, even though I don't care for the Miami and New York versions very much.
