It has plagued the world for hundreds of years...Racism. But i have been thinking about it alot and i dont think people realize just how silly it is.
I believe deep down we are all racist, or maybe some of us at a minimal level of just disliking a certain group (or their traits)alot...still i do believe its all a form of racism.
Even i can admit that im a little bit racist or discourteous to some because of traits and so forth that i despise. For example i dont like people who come from other countries to live in America..but yet they dont even try to learn the language.. Not being able to speak it well is fine..but not even trying is another thing..any who
But here is my point..Even though i hold this dislike of these people...i'll get all bent out of shape when i hear a racial slur, Gay bashing.. and so forth..but yet i do the same thing.
Do you think if more people thought about this concept, do you think maybe people would be able to accept others..how can people walk around as hypocrites..hating but then telling others not to hate??
Opinions please....

racial hatred is a posion that spreads more poison and a cancer in society. The sooner people work together the sooner we will respect life and learn to work together to save our world. It is so sad that we are seeing so much killing when we could be saving people, feeding the hungry and solving the problems in our world.
If all people communicate and come to understandings it will be so much better. The governments need to understand that the people world wide are getting wiser and understand more everyday that less politics and more communication is the pathway. E ducation and communication.

As for racism, I dont deal well with it. dont believe in it either. I am from Gary, Indiana and the biggest part of my friends growing up were of another race. And my grandson is mixed. we might be a different color on the outside by we are all the some color on the inside we all bleed the same. so mix it up world. anyway mixed babys are so beautiful dont you think.

Yes, I think we all are guilty of racism sometimes. But the good thing is that there are people like us who are conscious about it and take extra efforts to be more respectful of others who are not in the same race (or creed, gender, political belief, etc.). I used to have a little 'bias' against other Asians (I am an Asian) but when I traveled more and met many wonderful people from across many countries of Asia, I realized that some of my sentiments/notions are not fair and I become more accepting. I think we all learn so much from actual interaction so my advice to people is to travel and read more about other cultures because that is the best way to learn to appreciate other's culture, heritage and history. I'm glad that there is a discussion like this. If you want to travel to Asia, feel free to write to me. You'd be my guest here in Manila, Philippines. :)

oh so true, most people are racist or harbor hate for a group of people because they have never been put in their shoes, or seen the environments they come from and live in..the world would be alot better if your advice was taken..thanks for responding :)

I don't believe all people are racist, they may hate certain characteristics about a certain group of people but that doesn't necessarily make them racist. But on the other hand, there are still a very large handful of people who can't get over the fact that the USA comprises of several different ethnicities. In fact, your comment about not liking people who comes from other countries to live here, you great great great grandparents also came here from some other place, so does that mean that you despise them as well? That would also mean that you despise yourself because without them, you'll still be somewhere in Europe wishing you were living in the USA. And its not like they don't want to learn the language. English is not an easy language to learn. Especially if you come here when you're an adult. Or even so, maybe they still want to retain their culture, what little essence makes them different from you pasty white girls. Whatever the case, it shouldn't matter, they are here and they are not going abywhere, so just get use to it and learn to get along. It's only gonna get worse before it gets better.

Yeah I hate racism because we now live in a modern civilized society and everyone is eqaul in terms of color caste and creed and no one is superior or inferior to one another because we all are human beings with a intelligent brain to think because we are a social animal but still there is racism going on like the recent incident in the UK's famous serial Big Brother where Shilpa Shetty(Indian Actress) becomes the victims of racism.

I get pretty frustrated with racism. And the most frustrating part of all is that a lot of the people I know that are racist can't really explain WHY they feel that way. For example, I'm from Kentucky originally, and I have family there that use racial slurs every other word. They consider interracial marriage a huge scandal, and are constantly cautioning about interacting with "those types of people". And yet if asked why, all they can say is "They're just different from us, and we shouldn't mix." *sigh*
I do try pretty hard to be nice to everyone, and I'd like to think I'm not racist. The only time I really get frustrated with people from other races is when they're speaking very bad English, we're having problems understanding each other, and they're acting like it's my fault. It's not my fault. It's not really their fault either. It's a language barrier, and most of them are working to overcome it. This is something I deal with pretty regularly, because I work at a bank that is just off the campus of a college with a lot of international students. We get the business of almost every single international student at the college, because our bank supports many of the cultural events that the international clubs put on. I love meeting people from other countries and learning more about them and their countries, but the acting like it's my fault when I don't understand what they're saying does get a little old.
I'm definitely not homophobic. And I'm pretty religiously tolerant. So I think that's about my only real issue.
