Rainbows are a optical illution that seems to be present on the other end of th sky.
But what happen is that the 7 vissible colour rays in white light have different refractive index in rain drops. So that each one is refracted to a different degrees so that the seperation is there.
So now we know why & colours are there.
The semi circle sphere is because of the shape of the refrating surface. And we know the surface of rain drops are roughly spherical
I think must have got it.

Light is made out of Seven colours. When the Sun rays pass through the rain drops, they get reflected into seven colours and form the facinating Rainbow.

I believe the rainbows are formed from the water vaporating in the air and the when the sun shines on it, it gives off the colors that it gets.
