When I was 11, I was bitten by my neighbors dog. We were all playing tag and I was IT. I was chasing the girl the dog belonged to and he thought she was in danger, so he attacked me. He grabbed on to my leg and didn't want to let go. Three of my friends were pulling me away. He was tied up. When they finally got me free he nipped my other leg. I lived in a small town and the closest hospital was pretty far away. I had to get 23 stitches and I think the dog ate a chunk of my leg. The other leg had about3 stitches.

I have only been bitten very badly by a dog when I was younger. When we lived in Saskatchewan when I was younger I was teasing an older dog who my mom's boyfriend had at the time. Not knowing better of course since I was younger & didn't really know all to much about dogs then. But I was teasing the dog not thinking anything would happen.. And then all of a sudden it attacked my hand. And I had open wounds all over my hands & was bleeding terribly. It was my fault of course & I should have known better. But I guess all kids make silly mistakes when they are younger. And I am just glad that I had learned from that experience! . .
My other half had an experience when he was younger that made it hard for him to be nearby dogs in general until he met my puppy. At first, my puppy was reserved when she met him,, there was a lot of barking & all that happening. It didn't take her long to warm up to him though. She loves him & they like playing together all the time. She constantly gets excited everyday when he comes home from work.
Anyways, the story was....He was delivering papers in the neighborhood he used to live in & he came upon a house where the mailbox was on the side of it. He folded the paper in his hand & made his way around to he side of the house. When he got to the corner & turned, there was a half German Shepard, half Black Lab sitting on the landing. It started barking the second he turned the corner.
It spooked him so much he didn't know what to do so he ran. He ran through a pile of bushes & got across the street before he knew he had been bit. It freaked him out so much he gave up the paper route not long after that & until he met my puppy, he always told me he had problems walking past houses with "Beware of Dog" signs. He even avoided walking on the sidewalk sometimes because he was afraid a dog would come out from behind a house & attack him.
In conclusion.. From my experience & from hearing about other's experiences.. I've learned you need to be cautious when approaching any type of dog. And to make sure that you don't tease them to the point where they will attack you. Other then that I am still a dog lover to this very day.. And this experience & hearing about others experiences hasn't helped to steer me away AT ALL from not wanting a dog! . .

No, but there was this dog in my neighborhood when I was growing up that always chased me around. And this one time it came really close, but I ran really fast and I got away safely.

i was bitten by my grandparents old dog when i was only very young ( a toddler). it wasnt really his fault as i had wanted to put his biscuit back in his bowl that had fallen out - at the time i didnt know better. but it was nothing that a bit of anticeptic and a bandaid didnt fix as it was only on the back of my hand.
i still love dogs and wasnt scarred from the experience...im one of the fortunate ones i guess.

When I was 2 I was pulling our pure bred black labs hair while he was eating, he turned around growled and than bit my ear. I had to get 26 stiches. But a week later he bit me in the eyelid, I didnt get stiches or anything that time it was just a little nip. But my parents put him down. Now that i'm writing this I realize where were my parents while this was happening.

It depends on few factors.
You have to be sure that the dog has no rabies and if you can be sure of that then there is not much to fear you can then treat your wound as a normal wound . But in case of you not being able to determine with authenticity that its not a carrier of the disease then you ought to be a more serious and consult a doctor and take a dose of vaccine. Because this disease is such that it can be stopped with vaccine but if you are once affected its mortality rate is almost 100% so people don't take chances and get a shot ( most probably you need 3 shots nowadays).

I went out to feed my uncle's dog, some kind of rotty mix. I guess he wanted my hand instead of the food. He was chained up int he back yard and I hit him with the food dish to get him to let go. I didn't need any stitches, but I did have to get a tetanus shot. I now have a scar on my hand from where his K9 tooth broke the skin.
