My personal Review of Windows Vista

No way. After running yhe new Vista, I've decided to go back to using pencil and paper. All hype and no performance. I loaded the same programs on it as I did my Win XP system to compare the two. All of my programs ran slower, every one of them. I even loaded a reg. cleaner, designed for Vista. After a fresh install of Vista, the reg. program found 119 problems. The new Aero capability requires a Aero compatible video card, there's a suprise. The looks of Vista are simular to a Mac. Disappointed to say the least. If I wanted a Mac I would have bought one. Has anyone tried Vista yet I'd like to hear what you think.

I have an evaluation version of Windows Vista and I think that the operating system has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, it also has a lot of problems, especially with compatability issues. If you loaded all your programs that you used under Windows XP then you were lucky, because I am unable to run PDFfactory, Cyberlink Power DVD and Nero Burning ROM have issues and I cannot install the software for my sound card. Vista also refuses to recognise my CD-RW drive, so I am using the DVD-RW only. My evaluation copy expires in June, and if improvements are not made then I shall not buy Vista at a low price, let alone the high price that they are considering.

I have a full version of Vista Ultimate, and was very disappointed. From a tech. stand point, I don't even want to deal with it. I agree, given a few version up grades, a year or so, maybe, but too many people are going to jump on it right now sad to say. Word of advise, buy stocks in memory companies ! lol. Either that or hard drive companies. The space an install takes is going to rquire alot of home computer users to up grade both memory and hard drive space. Btw, what kind of a system are you runnin it on ? Even with their reqs, I've got it running on a s low as a 750 mgz, with 384 mgs of memory. Will load it on something slower to see how far down you can go.

No wonder your computer is running slow, Windows Vista is a seriously resource hungry system. I have a 3 Ghz Pentium 4 processor and I Gb of DDR RAM, so I can run the operating system quite comfortably. The direction that Windows appears to be taking is to add as many extra utilities as possible to save people from having to install third party software. This is a mistake in my opinion, because they are unlikely to add features that will rival the third party alternatives. I would rather use Nero than Vista's burning software or Power DVD rather than Windows Media Player, so when they start to add vast amounts of programs that I will not use then I am simply wasting drive space. Windows XP took about 1.5 Gb from a clean install, so the 7 Gb for Vista is not justified.

Haha, sorry, that was a stupid post on my part ! What I meant was, I've loaded Vista on Several different systems i have, starting with a P4 3.4 running 4 gigs of ram ( I know, XP only recognizes 2.75), then switched it to a 1.6 Pentium, then down to a 750mhz door stop. I know what they call for minimum requirnments, I just want to see how far down it will actually go. I did the same with XP Pro, it was suprising how little it will actually run on. It ( Vista) did run my programs very slowly on my 3.4 which suprised the heck out of me. Although i do run a lot of 3d rendeing programs that can kill cpu'd, XP has never even slowed down. (do i loose points for my stupid post? lol) Totally agree with Microsofts error in adding too many utilities. The first thing i would reccomend is killing them off too.

I bought new laptops for the hubby and I for Christmas. And I have a thing for free upgrades to Vista for both systems. Now I am wondering if I really want to upgrade or not. I know the hubby will probably jump on it. He tends to want to try the newest of everything as soon as it comes out. In my experience the first few versions of just about anything are a bit "buggy" I think after reading your post I will just wait for him to install it, and check it out that way instead of mucking up my system with something I ultimately dont want. Thanks for the heads up.

If you have such reservations, which is both understandable and prudent, then the solution is to make a complete backup of your Windows XP installation before installing the Windows Vista upgrade. This will give you the opportunity to try out the system for yourself and if you decide against it you can simply restore the previous system.

This is a good topic and appreciate your comments on the new operating system. Microsofts operating systems always have issues while either in testing phase or when it is first released so I always wait at least a year before purchasing a new system so that they can fix whatever problems the system may have when it is first being used. I am sure there are going to be quite a few compatability issues with the operating system and whatever software a person has on their computer. My computer is lacking enough RAM to try Vista.

I haven't tried it yet, but i also don't plan on trying anytime in the near future. I think microsoft is sending out software that is not one hundred percent complete and thus we must find the bugs with the system and send those stupid reports so they can fix them. Clever idea, but i don't want to pay money for something that does not work properly.

Doesn't matter, we will all be running it eventually. Lots of people were saying the same thing about windows XP. It's going to come pre-loaded on all new PC's in about a week. I've been running Vista RC1 on my system for a few months. It's got a couple of bugs to work out, but it should be clean by release. I went to the CES in vegas last week and almost all of the thousands of computers there were running Vista for all sorts of applications. It's been no secret that Vista was set to be a leap forward and therefore would require up to date hardware. If you don't need Vista right now to do what you always do on hardware that's a couple of years old, then don't upgrade. When it's time for your new system, it will be on there.

I think, this is not the right time to comment on the performance of Vista,,,,, because u all have Beta versions of Vista.... Being a devloper, i can say that in big implementation, Beta has a lot of bugs, most of them are performance bug which were fixed in later stage like GM. So, please don;t go for performance yet... try the security issues, Networking issues, Serious bugs if any... (like crash of operating system which any application) ... but dont go for Performance issue.. i m sure those all will be fix in realease time. Your comments are most welcome....

well i always had such intution in my mind that vista is going to be a flop. well you dnt design a os which is so heavy that you need a heavy machine just to run the os. forget of using it with other application. i think a os can make a point if it is spreaded in hme and offices properly and with such high req. os i dnt think companies will even think of upgrading to that. who wants such resource hungry os.

Thanks for your review for the such awaited and one of the best technology in 2007..but a huge disappointement..so read your experience with MS Vista..But I will give it a try..and then only come to a conclusion..because no OS has been stable from the point of their launch in the market..For example..the hot favourite Windows XP was also a bit unstable and unsafe at the first launch..and they have worked on the weakness and brought out two Service Packs and then it become one of the best and stable OS.So we have to give Vista a couple of time and then judge its feature and microsoft eligibility..

I really thank you so much for posting this. I was really curious if it would be better and thought about switching over to it if it would be that good. but after this I think I will be happy with just keeping what I have. My mother was also thinking of switching to vista so I really appreciate this info before we did make the switch. I would have been so upset. Great Post! +

It's very beautiful, but you haven't installed it yet? Yes, i agree, it has eye candy, but what good is an operating system that slows down your productivity. The idea was for computers to speed up our work. Give it a try and leyt us knwo what you think. Thanks !

Hi Greg; As i see you are an IT person; Microsoft ALWAYS NEVER LAUNCHED A FULL FLEDGED PRODUCT; They always test on us; their startegy is simple; let the customers says what their problem is and we will fix it " Means we need to do the TESTING JOB for them; that is why there will be loads of : SYSTEM HANGS; REBOOTS; ETC ETC., i am not saying this because i am notusing or using windows; this is the way they do it.

Well, i've tried it in my friend's pc.. and, i think that it doesn't make a great change, some of them are useless, such as remote access, but ' haven't try it yet. i prefer use ME than the other OS cause it is the most stable OS of Windows, or sometimes i use fedora too..

thank u 4 sharing ur experience. Vista needs lot of hardware support for it to run fast and efficiently. this has again proved that Bill Gates cant bring out an OS with minimum bugs in it.

I won't try Vista. I work on two computers and still like my older Windows Me. The other computer has XP. Sometimes it is slower than the ME. If I buy another new machine, I don't know what I would put in it.

I see your point. Windows Me works well enough for me and I don't feel the need to change it. When does the customer decide to stop chasing after every new technology? I am in a comfort zone I realize that someday I will have to accept newer tecnology. Waiting until they get all the bugs out never seems to happen...they are always sending out updates.

Interesting respsonces for sure. To clarify a couple of issues. I would think anyone in this blog has the sense to know a newer os is going to have some bugs for awhile, that doesn't need to be said again and again does it? Being in the industry gave me access to a full version of Ultimate, not a beta version. I am a die hard Windows fan, I believe in giving them a chance to fine tune Vista. The stocks in memory companies, hard drive compnies, and video card companies are going to jump. Bugs or not, Vista requires a high end system. Even a lot of the newer systems will have to be upgraded. I do not look forward to working with it. Anytime a customer is told they need upgrades, they will look at you like you're trying to rip them off and take all of their money. Since I do not build OS's myself, I don't understand all of their problems they deal with, however... What if I sold a product, only to tell you it may be a year or two before it will work right? No one else could run a buisiness this way. Don't sell a package that needs to be fixed, and isn't ready for the open market. How can you back a company selling something that doesn't quite work right? If it was me, Better Buisiness Bureau would close me down.

I think that if you want to upgrade your OS (operating system) you should upgrade it to linux, It's more efficient and it performance a lot better.

There might be a lot of factors that makes your vista runs slower. You must be using a Vista Capable computer to run it efficiently. I personally think that it's a great operating system. Maybe try adding RAMs or upgrade the graphic card for better performance. Cheers and have a nice day. ^_^

I think it has become a tradition with Windows now, when they had launched XP, my PC used to hang a lot and there were more virus attacks. I had to go back to Windows 98. And only after they came up with their Service Pack 2 did I shift to XP. The same looks to be a problem with Vista. I haven't tried it yet, but have been getting complaints from people who have used it. We might see some new versions and service packs coming in soon for Vista.
