Apparently, it's not only dogs that attack the postman - here's a cat story!

Postal workers are threatning to stop delivering the mail to a certain Sarah Gregg's house - at least as long as her cat is around! Gregg's cat Dipity strikes out at anyone who comes calling. Dipity has now taken a dislike to their postman, and leapt three feet and slashed him, drawing blood, as he slipped his hand through the family's letter box. You hear about guard dogs injuring postmen. You rarely hear about cats! What do you think about this story? Have you ever been in a similar position, with a pet who was aggressive towards the postman, or towards people in general? Have you ever been a postman, and you have stories or aggressive animals on your postal route? Feel free to share anything this story brings to mind! ^_^ More here: http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_2159847.html?menu=news.quirkies.animaltales

I would imagine that most postmen are not thinking about kitty kat danger. However, I can see a cat sitting for sometime by the letter box - just waiting for that hand to show up. Cats love to play those kind of games. Not sure what the solution is - probably easier to teach the mail main new tricks.

I am giving you the best response becuase I loved what you said about it probably being easier to teach the mailman new tricks than to teach the cat, lol!! That was such a cool answer, and you're most likely right. ^_~ I can also picture the kitty there, waiting to 'play' with that hand as soon as it comes through the letter box. Some cats probably would thikn just that - that they were 'playing' and not being mean - but the cat in this story definitely sounded agressive, don't you agree? *laugh*

It's funny to finally hear a postman getting slashed by a cat instead of a dog. Usualy it'sthe dog that starts barking and gets mad then chases and you know the rest. But a cat! Maybe the cat took after a dog it saw :)

LOL! Yes, maybe this cat thought secretly that it was really a dog! Now, that would be a great news story, wouldn't it? *laugh* A cat who believes deep down that it is truly canine. To show it's true identity, it takes to attacking the postman. LOL! ^_^

That was a cute story. Thanks for sharing. I once had a cat similar to that one. She would sit under the kitchen table and wait for someone to walk by,then she would pounce on them. She was a very mean cat. I learned to always check under the table before walking by it.lol.

My Uncle was a UPS delivery man. There was one business that he would deliver to, small locally owned office type, that had a cat. Every time he would come in, the cat would attack him from on top of a file cabinet by the door. This bugger left some wicked scratches down his back and even bit him! lol Needless to say, from then on he would knock and tell them to put the cat away. I used to tease the heck out of him for it!

A guard cat! that's really cool lol I saw aggressive cats before but they usually attack small kids as they seem like smaller targets (although much bigger than mice :) they usually just "threaten" adults and don't dare to attack.. but it seems that today's cats arte getting more and more aggressive.. too much TV I would say lol

I told you, didn't i tell you, yes i did! cats are EVIL! Pure deadly EVIL!!!! they are trying to take over the world, first they will destroy the postmen and next the doctors, then the teachers, then the politicians and before you know it they will have total control!!!! and you will all be asking yourselves "why didn't we listen to smuggeridge when he warned us?, instead we just mocked him and now here we are trapped inside a giant lemon slowly being eaten alive by tiny frenchmen"

Every pet I have owned has been wonderfull. Ooh wait I just remembered 1 cat that I had that used to attach me and only me because I used to torchur her. Hey I was only 9 or 10 yrs old. LOL any way I learned my lesson from that one.

That's hilarious! I've seen lots of demon cats, which mine is on occasion. When my sister had a large dog several years ago, she had to put a curb mailbox in because the mailman refused to deliver mail to their door.

That's a new one on me. I have never heard of cats behaving that way. Although, I do remember my cats getting all excited in our old house when the mail came though the slot. They would grab it, and run away with it. I think it was just a game for kitty. Too bad the postman didn't feel that way..lol.

This is really the "cat from hell"! I'm so used to my cat, who thinks he's a puppy. He meets people at the door and rolls over on his back to have his belly rubbed. I guess this is unusual behavior for a cat, but that's part of what makes him such a perfect pet.

hi shywolf. very funny story! ive been delivering leaflets around my local area lately and you have to be careful. i went down what looked like a very tranquil drive and it all sounded very peaceful even when i was at the door. as soon as my hand went through the letterbox, my god, something tried to take my hand off. it sounded like a dog but you never know!

The people need to get a box on their porch. Cats can be vicious. When a cat scratches the person can develop a serious infection that often leads them to the hospital for IV antibiotics.

When I was in college, my roomate had a cat who love to hunt. It was actually a very friendly cat but loved to chase everything from string to chipmunks. One day two 7th day adventists came to the door; one had been there before and the man with her was "in training" and was also mostly blind and had a cane. Although I (nor my roomate) had really any interest in what they had to say, we would always be polite. So, while we are chatting thru the open door, the cat sees the end of the mans white cane tapping in the grass now and then. Suddenly she streaked out the door and starts biting and clawing the cane, trying to kill it! The man stumbled a little in suprise and almost fell off the porch. Thankfully, they saw the humor in it but, we didn't see them much after the "attack cat" incident.
