Railways are on eof the cheapest public transport available today. It is sad you cannot travel from your town by train. I had been to States and I enjoyed travelling AMTREK from New York to New Jersy. I was amazed to see the traffic at New York both underground trains as well as long distance. It is nice to have railways, so that compared to buses it is fuel efficient, carries large number of passengers, it could be fastest. India is one of the countries which has largest railway network in the world. Despite this, do you know there are millions of Indians who have not seen a train or a track, because they live in remote villages and towns, far far away from the mainstream.

IT is sad not many young people have the opportunity to see the rail movements. There are a lot of people in my state where as you said is covered by hills and valleys where it is difficult to lay down railway lines. People in these regions haven't seen trains.

Yes, there is a Railway Station in Mangalore. The fastest train passes through the station is THRIVANANTHAPURAM TO MUMBAI. This trains has speed of 100 km/hr. It is slightly slow because it passes through the hilly area for more than 30% of its distance

That is nice to know you have access to rails. I always first think whenever I travel whether there is a railway facility no matter if it takes a few hours more to reach the destination. It is really nice to travel by trains.
