I just went out to the grocery store for milk...knowing that I'm taking my life into my own hands in the snow.
OK, my mother's used to driving with idiots out there, but it scares me! They speed like crazy, slam on their brakes, tailgate all the time, and still do all of this in snow&icy weather!!!!What is wrong with people?!?!?!?!
OK,I'm done whining;I just don't understand why folks just speed along and wonder why they end up sliding into a rail or another vehicle,ya know? It's like..DUH!

Where do you live? My husband thinks that just Tennessee drivers are bad. Worse when the weather get's bad. I have delt with a lot of bad drivers. I won't sit here and say I'm a excellent driver but I don't think your suppose to come to a stop to get off the freeway. Luckily I saw it coming ahead of time to go around the old lady.
When it rains gees, all you hear is sirens. People think aww it's just water, I can go the same speed. Now one year we got a freakish amount of snow, and we had to go get our daughter from school and a normal 10 min drive took us almost 1-2 hours. We had to go around because of so many accidents it wasn't even funny.
If people just went slow, stayed in the groove of the driver in front of them there would be less accidents. But noooo, then they wonder why there in a ditch waiting to get there car out.
I am greatful, I married a man that can drive in any weather.

Driving in bad weather is frightening. I drive slower than the speed limit. The other people that drive like maniacs are what scares me most. When one gets behind me, I pull over and let them pass.

I understand here in Portugal there are a lot of stupid creeps that think that road it´s like a race circuit and they drive if it´s raining or not. I watch some movies from the bad weather there in US and let me tell you there are people that doesn´t really care with others drivers. Wake up people life it´s to be lived.

I don't enjoy it, but, it's a necessity for me to get back and forth to work in Ontario. You have to do your best to just stay away from the people that are going way too fast for the conditons. Conversely, it was snowing this morning, not much, just enough to make it a little slippy. I got caught behind a guy going so slow, it was ridiculous. He was maybe going 30 km/hr. If people are that nervous to be on the road in the winter, they shouldn't be there.

Something lacking in drivers education courses is how to drive in winter!
Friends of mine who drove semi trucks together, (they were a married couple, both with their cdl lic) and in order to be certified, they had to learn to handle their big rigs on ice and snow and in rainy situations.
Why isnt that part of auto driving education too??
But then I have issue with the drivers ed system in general!
Maybe you could find someone who could help you in say a snowy or icy parking lot that would teach you how to handle your car in those situations. There are private driving instructors available in some areas.

What I used to do was on the first day of snow I would take my car to a big empty parking lot in the middle of the night and just drive around. I'd make myself skid and slide around and practice getting out of it.
As a result of this I'm a pretty good driver in the snow.
I think people forget just how hard it is to navigate in the snow, and it takes them a while to re-learn.

I know what you mean. They think because the speed limit is something, you should do it no matter what conditions are on the road. But the same goes to you - you knew the storm was coming, why didnt you store up enough supplies so you wouldnt have to go out and face those loonies? You took your own life into your hands!

Ohhh I'm with you all the way. I can't and will not drive in the snow for that very reason, scared for myself and scared that others who "think" they know possibly hit me..I will listen to the new and go way before the snow even comes, because once it hits, I'm not going anywhere

We have snow and ice here every winter in NY, and people still drive like idiots in it. You'd think they'd learn after a few years, ya know?
In your area, I'd be more inclined to give them a little bit of leeway for not understanding the dangers, but that's me. Does it get icy where you live very often?
But you're right, it seems like common sense to me that you need to drive more carefully when the road condition are bad.

i agree with you 100% we get a lot of bad weather here in Scotland and every time there is snow or icy roads people seem to go mad . I myself don't go out and drive in it unless I really have too . I watch people pass me on the motorway and wonder if they will get to where they are going still in 1 piece . it is just simply madness

I know what you mean. They have heard the warnings, they watch the pile-ups and crashes on the news and still they don't seem to care. These warnings are there for a reason. You need to be prepared in bad weather by getting snow tires and driving defensivley. There are so many accident due to speeding. Then there is black ice..which is very dangerous...so people need to pay attention...and get off thier cell phones and slow down!

I agree. People who drive like that scare the heck out of me as well. I don't like driving in snow or ice. I don't feel confident enough to do it. I also have seen how people drive in big cities, Such as Kansas City, MO, Springfield, MO and Tallahassee, FL. They drive crazy with out any kind of precipitation on the ground but when it gets rainy they get even more crazy.

The best thing you can do is drive slowly and defensively. Assume that everyone drives like an idiot. Try to keep your distance and maintain a speed limit below the recommended speed limit. If you are still freaked out of your mind driving in bad weather to get milk, I would suggest shopping online. Let another guy drive for your grocery. Saves you gas and hardship finding those darn parking spaces.
