I have seven children....so having a table large enough for all of us is not in this house. And because some of the children are younger than the others...getting a plate varies according to the child.
My younger children, I will make their plates for them and take them to the bar and the stool that they are to sit at. But my older children...teens...are completely able to help themselves to their own plates.

goodness brokentia, 7 children!! And I thought I was busy with three. How do you have time to come here to MyLot? (I'm glad you do) And do you cook all those meals for those children? ...wait don't answer that...that can be another discussion. lol

I love to set the table on Sundays. We have the opportunity to sit quietly and discuss the sunday newspapers or have a chat. I offer to do the plates afterwards and redeem myself as a modern husband. According to my wife I never help enough in house chores.

We usually just grab a plate and sit down in front of the tv. We do have a dining table but we only use it if we have company. We really don't have the room to set it up. Too much rearranging of the furniture for every day use.

If i have a plan with group or even a couple of friends then i would like to arrange the table. So that I all could sit down and enjoy the meal. If i am alone i would rather grab my plate and sit down any where, uĀ“nless it is comfortable for me.

I set the table. We sit down together, and nobody eats until grace is said.

We set the table for our meals. The only time serve buffet style is when we have the kids over for dinner. It is easier to set out the food and have everyone serve themselves.

When i lived with my parents there was really no such thing as set the table at meal time and eat together. And now that i've lived separately there really not much of a difference.

My family life is so chaotic and busy, I find that taking the time to set the table is very unimportant to me. We do all sit down together and pray before we eat, but other then that, dinnertime is very casual for us.

I always set the table at dinnertime. Although sometimes I dish up the meal for the younger ones, I've even started to let them do that themselves on occasion. It is very important to me that we sit down as a family to eat our supper. It gives us at least a half hour of quality time together where we can discuss the days events.

My family doesn't eat together. We all come home at different times, so we just eat when we want to. I usually grab a bowl of noodles and eat here at the computer. The only time we really sit down and eat a proper dinner together is Thanksgiving.

My husband and I generally sit at the couch and coffee table and watch TV while eating. I think we've at at the table once since moving here, lol! Right now, though, our dinner table is covered with a puzzle we're working on.

Times have changed, haven't they? Growing up we always sat at the table for dinner. If we weren't at the table we didn't eat. That was the rule. Of course the memories of those days are not good ones. My dad drank alot and it seemed he liked to pick on us kids or my mother at dinner. Often the food would go flying and we would all run to our rooms. So no dinner at the table in my house. It's more relaxed eating in front of the tv.

Only in special occasions we have the table being settled down around my place. Normally we all just grab our plates and eat whenever we feel like eating, so it's also normal that the family isn't even all-together around the table most of the time. I personally prefer to sit on the sofa and watch TV while having my meals, actually.

My household is just me and my boyfriend, and we're often guilty of just fixing our plates and munching in the living room. We do try to get in at least one or two actual "table meals" in a week, but after hectic days at work the idea of relaxing on the comfy couch while having dinner is often just too tempting!
