We are waiting to get High speed hooked up in our home but in the meantime i have to comtinue to get kicked off of the internet because of incoming calls. Do you have Dial up and suffer with this same problem?

We used to have dial-up internet but when our phone company offered a more affordable DSL package we immediately upgraded our internet account.

I don't have dial up any more, but when i did I had callwave. You can download it for free. That would help your incomming calls problem. But, not to worry, just be patient for the high speed. It is so wonderful. You will never go back to dial up no matter what the cost, lol...thats the way I feel anyway ;)

Callwave huh... So you can download this from your computer i am guessing. I think that i may try that and yes i can not wait for high speed so i can know the difference between the two!

We have dialup too simply because where we live we cannot get broadband as we are too far from the telephone exchange. We do have the option of satellite but it is very expensive and there is no way that I could justify the cost of having it connected. So we stick with the good old dial-up because it still lets me on the internet. We do not have a problem with incoming calls though, as the caller gets the ring but can leave a message and the internet does not cut out thankfully. That would be most annoying I should think but you will definately see the difference when you can get high speed broadband connected. I have actually used it when holidaying with friends and it is just so fast when compared to the dial-up connection I have. :)

See this is my complaint with Dial up. Although we have voice mail and most other features i get kicked off line if someone leaves a message on the phone here!

I don't think anyone will use dial up now as each and everyone has gone to broad band and dial up users are very very less now and maybe you are also one among the minors now...isn't it? in coming day's, even this broad band will become outdated and don't be surprised if this change comes fast...ok

I also use dial-up and hate it, although i do not get kicked off. The caller just gets a busy signal.

it is really crazy to use dial up now with the increasing speed demand the internet providers are on a run to provide the users with high speed broad band or adsl or a lease line connection. i used a dial up connection first and thrown all the things into the bin because of the knowledge of this connection that is the 2mbps brad band connection.i couldn't resists that from doing.bow i have no problem in browsing and downloading the speeds are great.

I never had dial up and never planned to. I tried it on my bf's place since he switched from cable to dial up...it drives me nuts. I really takes forever to load and I don't have enough patience for that. When I first got my pc, I had broadband...now I'm using DSL. I just love high speed.

When we first got our computer, we had aol, and dial up. *LOL*, my husband is not as patient as I am, he hated it. We soon moved on, and now we have comcast. Things change so quickly, we also have a new camcorder. They are constantly making things smaller and faster. I can't wait to see what happens in the next 8 years.

I have broadband, but like the majority of broadband users in Australia I am on a monthly download limit and when I exceed that limit I am shaped down to between 40-64kbps which is dial-up speed here. When I'm shaped down for a week or so each month I have lessons in patience!

I used to get really frustrated with dial up when I used to have it. I would absolutely go nuts because it would hang up on me all the time. On top of that I would be working on something and in the middle of me doing that specific thing, I would lose it because the connection would be lost or something like that. I would get really upset when this happened. When we finally got cable/high-speed internet in this house I was more than happy. It meant I wouldn't have to lose something I was working on and that the line would no longer hang up on me. I could do my work free from the worry of having to write it out beforehand or something silly like that. I remember the days of using dial up and having to wait for a long period of time before I was even on the internet. It would usually be so slow I could do a few other things around here in my room before I was even connected to the internet. From there it didn't get much better. The modem used to hang up when someone would call the house, much like what you went through. It used to just drive me nuts when that happened. I used to find that anything I was ever working on I would lose when the internet service hung up on me. As well, if I was visiting a site I really enjoyed being at and I was in the middle of a conversation with someone or even trying to check on my emails, if there was even the slightest problem, the service would shut down and I would have to start over again. Plus I'd think that the person was just ignoring me when in reality my internet service had hung up on me without even giving me a notification of it doing so or anything. I really those days all to well & how I wanted to pull my hair out all to often! When we finally got high speed internet in this house I could not have been happier. It meant an end to me losing my searches or any other work I had done online. It meant that I finally had a web provider that supplied a service that wasn't full of problems and headaches. I could breathe easier knowing that I wouldn't have to wait forever to get to the sites I wanted to. As well, they would not take a long time to load up at all. I was happy when we finally got onto the internet here because I could surf without a lot of the worries I had previously faced. I cannot complain for the service we have now compared to the old dial up. It's one thousand times better and faster. It allows me to gather my information quicker and with less problems in terms of disconnecting on me. I can rest easy knowing that a lot of my work will not just up and disappear on me for no reason. I can have a little faith that the service won't shut down on me on the middle of doing something important. Dial up I think will soon go the way of the dinosaur. There is not much use for that type of connection anymore, at least in my opinion. In a world where technology is trying to speed things up, why even offer a service that is completely outdated? It seems kind of ridiculous to me to even do this. I think it would be better if once something becomes outdated that the companies offering it would just take it off the market and offer the customer who had it the next step up. At least then they aren't paying for something that no longer exists. I guess the only benefit to dial up is it's not as expensive as cable. Probably because not a lot of people use it these days. In conclusion, I am glad that I no longer have to use dial up for my internet connection. It really dragged in terms of speed and whenever I was online and someone called, I was always kicked off the internet. I would have to wait until that person was off the phone before I could resume my work on the internet. It was a huge headache I'm glad I'm not having to handle anymore. I honestly don't miss it all to much at all! . . Thanks for allowing me to share! xx

Fortunately, we have DSL in our home. But we started out with dial up and it drove us insane! I actually had the phone company install a second phone line just for the computer, so I didn't have the problem with the phone calls. Now, after having DSL at my home, I sometimes have to go over to my mother in law's house to help her with things on her computer. And, of course, she has dial up! I usually end up growling at it and threatening it with a hammer, which sends my MIL into fits of laughter (she does the same thing. LOL). It's just way too frustrating sometimes.

Oh you poor girl. I haven't been on dial up for along time but I feel your pain. I was offered dial up for a couple days a few months ago when our DSL went down for a bit but I didn't even bother because I remember clearly how much hassle it was. And now it would be impossible. My daughter is a social butterfly and gets a lot of phone calls everyday.

We had dial up until just recently when we finally got our hi speed connected again after our move to a different internet provider. I absolutely hated every second of dial up, even though it was free. Whenever myself or my partner wanted to make a call, we had to disconnect from the internet, make the call and then reconnect, it was nuts. I will never ever ever go back to dial up. We know it's available should we have problems with our hi speed, but voluntarily I would rather die lol.

I once used dial up but it only give me headache. I always do multitasking in internet thats why dial-up doesnt suite to my needs. Im now using DSL with 2Mbps speed. Its really great to have high speed internet because you can surf a lot of site at the same time... God bless.
