Per the American Preganacy association, the rate of in vitro success is based on the age of the woman as well as other factors which include patient characteristics. A point that the site brings up, is that quite often the success and/or fail rate of in vitro is not being compared to the number of live births, but rather to the rate of confirmed pregnancy through a blood or urine test which would not take into account miscarriages after the test was taken.
Alternate metods:
Gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT) and zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT) are two procedures related to IVF.
GIFT is similar to IVF, but the gametes (egg and sperm) are transferred to your fallopian tubes rather than your uterus and fertilization takes place in the tubes rather than in the laboratory. GIFT also involves a laparoscopic surgical procedure to transfer the sperm and egg into the tubes.
ZIFT differs from GIFT in that the fertilization process still takes place in the laboratory versus the fallopian tubes.

maybe the OB can best tell what fits for the couple to use depending on their problems encountered. for sure the following procedures cost a lot.

knowing what this is all about having gone through it myself usually ibf us a last resort for most women, yes it depends on age, it depends on a lot of factors but again should be a last resort..if it is not you should get a second opinion...just to be sure!
