My dogs and cats get along fine. In fact my big dog lets some of the cats sleep in his box with him. But when they try to go near his food he growls at them. Now my youngest dog is a little different. She has never tried to eat any of them but she does get a little carried away with them. If any of them get near her when she is in her playful mood, which is most of the time, she will grab one by the neck and try to throw it like a rag doll. I don't think she hurts them thought because I have never heard them cry when she does this. Of course I usually catch her before she does anything else and as soon as she sees me she drops them. It is kind of funny though because I know she is just playing. But they all get along pretty good. :)

It depends on the situation. In the wild a dog would eat a cat. in most homes there's no need to hunt and they've been socialized together. My cats used to sleep with the dogs. Now that the cats have a heated house they don't any longer but they still sometimes play together.

Dogs & cats are both carnivores. Why do you think cats eat mice & rats? That's also why dogs like steak & hamburgers & chicken better than regular dog food.

Well, I've known a dog (Collie) to eat a dog (Pomeranian)...talk about a horrific sight.
But my cats sleep with my dogs...and my pet rat used to sleep with my cat....and my pet bunny used to eat with the cat.

I think a dog could possibly eat a cat if it was hungry enough but have never heard of it actually happening. A cat will scratch at a dogs nose and eyes so most dogs although they love to chase probably wouldn't actually maul even if they could catch up, maybe a russel would think about it but my doberman definately knows better and she lives with a cat, they chase one another around, it's fun to watch the cat doing the chasing, lol.
I've heard of cats catching and eating baby rabbits and mice but I'm not sure whether most pampered pets would take on a nasty rat, maybe a tough farm cat would.

I've never actually seen a dog eat a cat..I have seen them kill cats. But that all depends on how they're raised. I have 4 dogs & a cat & they all get along really great.

My princess cat is just a kitten, my dogs love her. She can do whatever she wants, including eating from my dogs plates.Sometimes they sleep huging each other, cute:)

I have a dog that will kill any cat that gets near it. It has done this a couple of times. He did not eat them, but they were taken away from him and buried. He also kills squirrels and eats them so I suspect that he would eat the cats if he was allowed to.
I also have a dog that thinks she is a cat. She fleas my cats, will not eat dog food but loves cat food, and rubs against your legs like a cat.
So I believe it depends on the dog and the cat, Some cats are mean enough to keep the dogs at bay, but some dogs hate them enough to eat them if they get to close.

I haven't heard that dogs eat cats, I have heard of some dogs killing cats. But I was raised on a farm and we had many cats and also dogs. They all got along.
I now have a dog and a cat and they are best of friends. Even the dog I had for 18 years he had a good buddy also who was a cat and is now passed. But we now have another mine schnauzer and a cat that we got from a shelter and they get along great, they play and even sleep together..
