Is it illegal to burn the flag in your country? It is currently not against the law in Australia to burn the flag.

Yes, here in the United States is is a crime, punishable by fines and prision, to burn the American Flag. I think it is tragic for anyone, in any country, to have that much contempt and hatred for their country that they would debase their national flag and symbol of their country. No matter how much I disagreed with the politics of my country, I don't think I could ever burn a flag.

I completely understand what you mean. It came as a shock to me when it was announced tonight on the news that it was not a criminal offence in Australia. Organisers of a concert have also banned the Australian flag from their event so as not to provoke any racist attacks. I can't believe what this world is coming to. It really saddens me

Oh yes burning of our flag is a criminal offence I am sorry to tell you but you try and burn one here in Australia and see what will happen to you as it is against our law.

Kathy, I heard it on the news last night that it is not a criminal offence and perhaps that they should make it so after all this kerfuffle about the big day out in Sydney not allowing the Australian flag.
