Does Anybody Know Where I Can Find 4XL Sewing Patterns?

I need to find a sewing pattern to make something for a very large person, six feet tall, and 54-56 inch chest, normally wearing 4XL size clothing. Can anybody point me in the right direction of a supplier please? Most patterns in large sizes only go up to 2XL, but I thought there might be somebody with the same predicament out there who could help me out. Do you know any sources?

Hi again, Gabs! You following me? lol. Just joking, it's great to have the sort of support you show me. Thank you. Yes, I have looked around the net, including E-Bay, who have surplus sizes, but most of them only seem to go up to 2XL. I think between my sister and I, we can adjust the size, but it's much easier and more reliable, (as you can imagine with this crazy person), to have a pattern of the right size. Even the ready-made garments only go to 2XL so I'm a bit stumped right now. Thank you for your input, Gabs. See you at the next discussion. lol.

By the way, Gabs... I don't know whether you've encountered this site yet, and I think it's in the teething stages, but you might like to look at: http://www.dormcheck.com/register.php?refer=Darkwing The earnings come up as you make them... it's a similar site to this. I've only spent one session in there so far, but if you're interest, do take a look. :-)

Sometimes, you can find larger size patterns on E-Bay. It depends what type of thing you're looking for but I've seen a few costume patterns and dress patterns in there. It might be worth your having a search through there, and then, maybe you could check out the shops under extra size patterns. I hope you find something.

I'll certainly take a look on E-Bay and perhaps they have shops, as you say, through E-Bay. Thank you for your response Leedsrbest.

Often larger people will vary in shape rather more dramatically from person to person than a very skinny person (after all, skeletons are much of the same shape, extra flesh can be carried in many different ways though). So, its often a better plan to use more traditional sewing techniques and drape on the body rather than working from a pattern. A lot will depend on what exactly you want to make, but perhaps make a cheap toile first so you get the fit right then work from that.

Thank you... that's a good idea. I don't know how I'll make out with it because I haven't done it that way before, but the garment is to be fairly full, so I suppose one or two mistakes won't hurt. lol. Your contribution is very much appreciated. Have a Great Day! :-)

Go to SEW NEWS online and you will find a source. Also, GREAT PATTERNS carries larger sizes. FASHION PATTERNS by Coni also carries through 6X. Go to: www.fashionpatterns.com and you will see what they have. Some of the KWIK SEW patterns also run larger. Hope this helps.
