LOL is neither female or male, and does not pertain to one language or another or country for that matter. It's an abbreviation, known online as 'chatspeak'. Because emotions and tone are hard to convey through text, the internet can be a difficult place to be understood. Which is why some choose to convey emotion or tone through chatspeak abbrevations and emoticons. LOL = L.O.L. and stands for 'laugh out loud'. Here's a list of the basic chatspeak terms. It means Laugh Out Loud. Not just women do it, and it gets irritating to talk to someone who overuses it. "El Oh El" is how it's usually pronounced, unless someone is using it to be ironic, then it's usually "lohl" :D is a little smiley face turned to the left. Tilt your head to see it.
