Do smokers really have any idea how pathetic they smell?

I beleive some of us do and some don't. I do. I hate it. I wash my hands and freshen my breath when I am out with friends and even when I am home. I don't smoke in the house. I am as polite a smoker as you could ever find. I know how awful it smells. Well, during the past 3 months I have cut down by half and will cut that amount by half at the end of 4 months. I have tried all the other methods and no success. I am 49 and have been smoking on and off for 40 years. Yep that is right. How disgusting is that! I am only assuming that all smokers have or are lookng to have a "plan" to quit. I personally apologise for all those smokers who blow smoke at people and don't bother to wash their hands and freshen their breath.

I think they are not, I always tell my dad he smells bad he smokes a lot and he seems to think I was joking, I wasn't. I got smoker friends but my condition is always don't smoke in my presence and if I smell them I say get away from me hehehe.

I don't think so because if they know how bad they smell I doubt if they'll continue smoking. Sad to say but smoking is like any addiction, it's hard to let go of.

well i guess smokers develop a tolerance with regards to the smell that sticks to their clothes and hair when smoking.. but you know.. we can still smell the stink though that is why some of my friends who smoke always have with them a cologne or perfume to drown the smell. i think that when you smoke you should cover up the awful smell in your self and in your mouth by spraying cologne or perfume and chewing mints, gums or candies.. anyway if you ever encounter a friend who really stinks, i think that it would be nice to inform him politely about his smell and offer him some perfume or cologne or alchohol..

Smokers do not notice the smell they leave behind. It is similar to a person who wears the same cologne or perfume every day. After awhile, they are pretty much immune to the smell.
