Could google meet its match???

So a new website, www.chacha.com has people in wall street journal and USA Today asking, could google actually be mortal? Chacha.com is a search engine. Instead of using a computer to find the requesters query though, chacha.com actually uses people, or search 'guides', to find what the searcher is looking for. When you press 'search with guide', a chat bar opens and you tell the search guide exactly what you are looking for, and they find the exact page you need! BadaBoom! Could this post a big threat on Google's throne of never-ending power?

I don't think so, its just a fad, and since they only are willing to pay Amerians to do the searching, there is a whole big 5.7 billion people they are excluding. In other words, its American only, and on the internet, that spells doom.

Actually, it is through france and england also. Chacha.com is also still in 'beta' so its just getting started. What if after it started getting bigger, it went worldwide?

Yes I've heard about that. I think that it is going to do well because it is more personal. By being more personal they can provide better results. Personally I think it is an excelent idea. I don't know if they can really afford to do this or if it is cost effective but for the end user it must be a pleasant experience.

Currently they are sponsored by compaq and amazon.com and a whole list of other large companies. These help pay the guides. They currently have a couple thousand guides. Millions? Probably once they go more global. No problem at all. The good thing about it for the guides is that its an at home job, so they can work straight outta their basement/livingroom/ or anywhere.

i dont think so...using technology is still faster than manpower..traffic will affect its service as soon as many users will ask for query.Waiting time is still a big factor.

the big thing about chacha is that the guides wade through all the search results and give you relevant results to your query. you dont have to do that, plus they are fairly fast in providing you results plus they talk to you while they are searching. it makes it fun and a little more interactive

No, it will never happen. To the majority, speed of search still matters the most. Most of us would probably prefer to find something close to what we want fast rather than spend time waiting for something that may not even be what we want in the end.
