I posted a recipe for Microwave No Bake Cookies and it got me to thinking. I dont cook in my microwave but I do make cookies and candies in it. I mostly just reheat in it. I dont think foods stay hot as long when heated in the microwave. To Be totally honest, I have never really trusted the microwave. I worry about getting radiation. I know that may just be crazy but it is a fear of mine. I would never heat a baby bottle in it. I see many mothers doing this but I tend to worry too much, I guess. What to you do with your microwave?
Do you cook in it?
Do You reheat in it
Do you not even have one?
Do you trust the microwave?

I cook on electric or coal stove. I wish I had LP gas as a back up. Do you like gas stove?

Maybe I'm too trusting (with the radiation issues and all) but i use our family's microwave pretty much every day. My family cooks a nice, healthy lunch, and then we fix whatever we want for supper. That means that I usually grab a microwaveable meal out of the freezer and heat it up in the microwave. I'm not a cook and I don't have any great desire to learn to be one *laugh* So the microwave is a great help to me. I honestly wouldn't like to be without one. I would feel pretty lost!

Alot of people use the microwave as you do.I find that all the elderly in my area, or at least the ones I know, use their microwave for everything.

I only cook rice in my microwave. It makes it just right, on the stove top I tend to burn it. I use it a lot for reheating and for heating up water for tea or cocoa. I don't have a problem with my microwave. I trust it but my husband I don't trust. I have to watch to make sure he doesn't put something in there that isn't supose to be put in there. Like metal, sterofoam, and plastic wrap that melts. He is so bad about that I'm afraid he's going to blow himself up.

I mostly reheat in mine. I do steam vegetables and cook scrambled eggs in the microwave. I have never tried cokking meat in there though. I think it would get it to done for me. So I use it to cook some things and heat most everything. I have never tried to cook cookies but I may now that I have a recipe.

Well, I've cooked / steamed veggies in it. I have done meats in it before a long time ago. Of course everyone does the little microwavable meals. I do candies or at least I heat the almond bark in there to make dipped pretzels and such. Don't know about the baby bottle issue. I don't think I would. No, you can't get radiation poison from microwaves. I still prefer to cook most meals in the stove and then reheat with it, but it's not a good idea to reheat stuff more than once or twice. Well, I don't reheat anything by any method more than once or twice. "I don't trust reheating it again," was the reason my mom always gave but don't we always wind up doing things like our mothers did it?

I don't think you'll have to worry that much about radiation, but I think the food tastes better made in the oven. For an instance, if you have an instance-pizza, do you make it in the oven or in the microwave? I usually make it in the oven since it doesn't taste as wet.

Oh Yeah, I love a crispy pizza not soggy. I would never prepare pizza in the microwave. Thanks for the comment

Frankly speaking yeah you are right we use our Microwave oven for reheating the food for 90% of the time because I prefer to cook food mainly on gas stove and one of the reason for purchasing a Microwave is also for reheating the food before we eat.

I mainly use my microwave to reheat things but there is one thing I will cook in it and that is baked chicken. I have a oven proof amber colored dish that the chicken will even brown in. It's a lot quicker than baking in the overn and comes out juicy too!

Well i dunno any reciepie to really cook something in the microwave, but if i'll find one i'll shure try it,but basecly i use it for defrost and heating cuz it's more easy 4 me in the kitchen since i have the microwave.Shure tht they r radiating cuz they r based on radio-waves.BUt so many other thinghs like a cell phone does harm us.Anyway i don't wanna live 100 years so i'll enjoy everithing i can in this life.

I don't currently cook in my microwave although I intend to begin, quite honestly I have been too lazy to begin. I do use the microwave to reheat food. Hmm Do I trust the microwave? I don't quite understand. How does one trust a machine? Its simple, I switch the microwave on, put the food in, close the door and press the relevant buttons..thats all that there is to it.

I too wonder about microwaves, but I do use them to reheat food, or defrost food, melt butter or chocolate, zap a mug of water for tea, or to cook my Lean Cuisine dinners. When people tell me to pop a bottle into the microwave to warm for their baby, I refuse to do it and put it on the stove in a pan of water. I do the same for babyfood.

We only really reheat with the microwave and on the odd occasion defrost food! When I'm doing a roast dinner I usually put my potatos in boiling water and whack them in the microwave for 4 mins before putting them in the oven to get yummy baked potatos!

I find myself cooking bigger helpings and putting them in the fridge then making meals around them as not to have to cook. I have a gas stove and my kitchen doesn't have any air conditioner vents or a window except across the room. So it gets quite warm in there making dinner. So I will make more than we will eat and that way I have at least 2 nights worth of food to just reheat during the summer. Now I don't mind cooking in the winter as it helps to warm the house.

As there are only two of us in my family, I find the microwave handy for cooking small joints of meat and chickens. I also grill chops and bacon and boil vegetables. It is much more economical than turning on the large oven for a small meal. However, if I am heating a meal, I was make a hole in the centre and the sides tend to warm up faster than the middle. I really don't know how I coped before microwaves were invented.

I do not cook in my microwave.. I do reheat alot of items in here- But I also defrost items.. I always seem to forget to grab meat out in the morning for dinner. So when I get home from work I grab some and throw it in to defrost quicker. Works like a charm.
I lied I guess I cook popcorn in it. I don't do it on the stove.
I also melt chocolate for candy in it as well. When I am using the microwave I stand back... I'm not sure about the radiation stuff but why take chances.

Sometimes in microwave and some I just reheat my food. If the food seems to be lighten type of food then I just reheat it and if its like Bar.B.Que or fast food then I have to use Microwave oven.
