With the growth of a powerful monster like wal-mart thats making millions and millions everday, does kmart have a chance to come back? Now and then I see more and more people shopping at kmart but noticed that they dont intend to buy a lot. I think the problem is that they should train their employees to start greeting and welcoming customers as they enter the store. I mean, just try something to draw more customers.

I worked at Shopko for a while and our motto was excellent customer service. We knew that we could never beat wal-mart's high prices so we look to increase something else that wal-mart didn't have. Walmart's employees are rude and impolite. They don't go out of their way to make their customers feel welcome. Every time I go there, I'm never greeted nicely and have been asked if I need help or even recieve a smile from an employee. At Shopko, the whole atmosphere is different. I guess Wal-mart feels that their prices are low enought to compensate for other problem areas, such as customer service.

I think they do. Especially since they joined forces with Sears. While I do shop at Walmart, they have some practices that I don't agree with. Plus I find that they DON'T always have what you're looking for. I like to spread my business around. So I hope others will too and shop at K-Mart as well as some mom and pop stores.

Sears may be K Mart's only salvation. Whether they will
be able to do anything to bolster the image, I don't know.. I haven't been in K Mart for about a year. The last time I was in one, it was very disorganized, and kind of resembled
a war zone

I would shop at a Kmart if we had one around here. But the closest one that we have is 2 hours away from here. We have a walmart here in town but if I want something decent, I have to travel about 25-30 miles north or south just to get something decent as in clothing for myself, my husband or my son. Having a Kmart here in town would be really neat. I'm sure a bunch of people who normally shop at Walmart would shop at the both of them.

K mart can not come any where closer to walmart... Walmart as expanded so much that it has litrally blown away the competition. Kmart in my area have lost its charm and they have not been renovated since many years and look pathetic. I go to walmart most of the time and get good priced items.

Well from what I heard on the news the other day, Wal-Mart is starting to bring heat down on themselves with their anti-Made in the USA sale tactics. Less and less of their merchandise is made in the USA anymore. Remember years ago, Wal-Mart could not boast enough about that. Now they are buying most of their products produced over seas. K-mart is trying to bring in more American made things. I think this will give K-mart a good boost in contending with Wal-Mart.

I guess that's true but if you think about, wal-mart is only looking for the cheapest prices for their customers. A lot of people I know who are scrapping for money already are not going to care what the label says on the clothes they wear. They could care less about where they're made form. All they care about is the price, is it cheap enough that I can afford it. Wal-mart has a vision to keep up, providing the lowest values in town. If that's what it takes, then that's what they'll have to do.

I am a big time Kmart fan, so I hope they will stay strong. Kmart, that is! They have merged or bought Sears, so I hope that will help them stay solid for many years. I always went to Kmart as a child growing up, and there was no Walmart then, and I really hope they don't go out of business. Any time I need something, I will choose Kmart over Walmart any day. The Kmart near me also has a grocery store in it, which is a big plus!

Maybe KMART does have a chance because I LOVE to go and shop there sometimes. They always have really good discount prices and markdowns. I don't think it will ever be AS POPULAR as walmart but I do think they can become bigger.

i find walmart more accessible than driving to a kmart couple of miles away. that is one of walmart's winning strategy to be more accessible. for me atleast. secondly, maybe because of lack of a crowd shopping at kmart, i find it uninteresting. i think they can get back in competition if they do something about presentation of merchandise and a friendly welcome would also be an addded advantage.

I personally don't see K-mart coming back even with the Super K-marts. Personally, I believe it's how quick they build Walmarts. There way more Walmarts than K-marts. The problem One thing I have notice about Walmart. Just about every small county (country town) I go to, they have a Super Walmart. I never see a K-mart in the area...I think K-mart will always be the smaller dept. store...Walmart has taken over everywhere..lol

I can't see Kmart getting bigger than Walmart. I know Walmart has problems all business does. I also know that here is Maryland Walmart is every where. I like the fact that they price match. I also like the fact that most of the time they give good customer service.
The Kmarts in my area are full of people who just don't care. The customer service is terrible. The sales people do not know how to do their jobs. I have complained to management on more than one occation and gotten no where. Since Kmart can not seem to get its act together I will not shop in their stores. I have also recommended to my family and friends that they shop else where as well.

Yes, Kmart has a chance but they will have to work hard. Any organization when faced with going out of business is capable of getting extremely motivated. They could save themselves, but only time will tell if they will.
Why would a company not change a policy that is killing it? Let me give you an example.
Sometimes a company just will not change a policy that is killing it. Sometimes a company would rather die than change the bad policy. One case I am familiar with involved a company that actually went out of business because of nepotism. That's right, if a family member did not work at this place, they would not hire you. Sounds good, but what happened is that desire to maintain good family relations prevented critism of other workers poor quality work or bad work habits. This company's output and quality of work continuely declined to the point that their ship of business sank.
Would they ever admit they were wrong and change their ways? NO!

I agree with you on the terms of people greeting customers. i love going into the store and workers being nice and such. I think K-Mart will come out in the end good seeing how they still have lay-a-ways and walmarts doing away with them :(

I don't believe that they have a chance on comeing back. Wal-mart has a much better solectionn. K-mart is also very unfriendly when I do go to K-mart I have the hardest time finding anything that I need and tring to find a staff member is like pulling teeth.

I hate going to Wal-Mart, the parking lots are always full, and the people that greet the people coming into the store just freak me out. I love shopping at K-Mart because the parking lots are small and there are no creepy people greeting me.

All the kmarts in my area have become sears. Although I don't like it as much as I do the kmarts they aren't bad. I like the fact that they help out the troop familys and try to better the communities that they are around. Unlike walmart who will not even give donations to charities in there areas. I think if more people knew about sears and what they do for them more people would support them. I for one would rather have them spend the money on the families of the troops than on a greater.

i worked at Kmart for 2 years and they are surely not coming back.i mean it is a great company to work for but then their products, way store is designed and managed is bringing them down. they have to have some radical change of they want to compete with wal mart.

I think that since KMart merged with sears it has an excellent chance of coming back. I think the store needs to take stock of it's stock. Everytime I go into a Kmart, I can't find anything on the shelves, but i beleive that this will change over time and as the sears brand things start to move over to the Kmart side.
