Would you choose to become a high school teacher?

Why or why not? I've heard many people talk about the benefits and how teachers have it easy, but if you ask them would they become one the response is often "no way". What is your perception? Is it an easy job?

A friend of mine is a high school teacher, as were both my Mom's parents. It seems like a difficult yet rewarding career, but I wouldn't choose it. The hours would be grueling, starting the day so early and having to take so much work home. There are always events in the evenings, conferences and such. Maybe the hardest part would be the parent-teacher conferences about the kids who aren't doing well. On a brighter note, teachers can have so much of an influence on students' lives. I'm still grateful to an 8th grade English teacher who taught me how to analyze what I hear and read. I still use what she taught, and wish there were more teachers like her.

As of now, no choice is necessary for me. I am a high school teacher. Teaching is not an easy job. You don't deal with lessons and teaching aids alone. You are dealing with precious life. You could make or break a soul with your words. And since I am teaching in a public school in the Philippines, I am sharing an experience of a Filipino teacher. We don't earn much contrary to what most people believe...but the non material rewards are so heartwarming...

I was actually thinking of becoming a high school English teacher. I'm studying for the Praxis exam now to see if could get my certificate and what not to do it. I don't think it's an easy job because there is more to it then just teaching and grading.

It would be a tough job, but I think the rewards could be great. My son was not a stellar student (he was more like a black hole in school) but he is doing fine now. And he still keeps in contact with one teacher, the one who made a difference to him in school. He went from barely passing to honor roll that year, she knew how to reach him.

I'd never want to become a high school teacher. No way! That's because you have to be very patient and children can be very annoying. I am not that patient but it's not the biggest problem. I really think that I couldn't stand that I would explain some stuff to people that are not interested at all. But who knows... it's possible that one day i will have to become a teacher because of lack of other working opportunities. Well, I'll do everything to prevent this from happening :-)
