I don't buy white sugar anymore. I occasionally use brown sugar because of the molasses in it adds a little nutrient value and rich flavor. I like to use maple syrup, succanat, and honey as sweeteners because they're less processed.

that's a great idea, thanks! i use honey for coffee or tea, but in cooking, it's mostly white sugar, unless the recipe specifically requires brown sugar.

I am going to be different here and say that I mostly use raw sugar and use it like I would the others. Some things do require brown sugar as this is a lot sweeter but it is mainly raw.

thanks, caramello. i think it's when you want your cookies or muffins to have a darker color, that's when you also use brown sugar.

brown sugar - brown sugar is made by addinf molassese to white sugar
White sugar is an industrially processed chemical not found in nature, and it is not fit for human consumption. The so called 'brown sugar' sold in supermarkets is nothing more than refined white sugar with some molasses spun back into it for color and flavor. It is not a 'health food'. Sugar is the chief culprit in many diseases and degenerative conditions. The average person uses 2-3 pounds of sugar each week It is found in just about every thing From catsup to microwave meals. It suppress the immune system making it easier to get flues and colds,. It can cause mood swings and is the preferred fuel for cancers. By white sugar, I'm assuming you're talking about regular granulated sugar and not powdered sugar. The difference between granulated and brown sugar is that brown sugar has a coloring, usually molasses or corn syrup, added to give it color, extra flavor, and stickiness, lol. I use granulated most often. Brown sugar has a tendency to harden and stick together in clumps if exposed to air for an extended amount of time. For me, this happens when I don't properly close the bag! Sticking it in the microwave for a few (FEW!!) seconds or putting an apple slice in the bag should help it soften up.
