WOMEN:
When you were pregnant did you have any cravings? What about food aversions?
When I was pregnant I never had any cravings, though at the beginning I did have some major food aversions. During the first trimester I did not want any meat and I also didn't want sweets. Funny, I know. My husband opened a bag of Oreos and I almost had to leave the room. I couldn't even stand the smell.
what about you?

With my first, I craved fruit like crazy, couldn't have enough of it, especially watermelon, which really sucked because it was during the winter when it was hard to buy watermelon, lol. With my second and third pregnancy, I craved milk.
I found out I was pregnant with my second because I decided I just had to take a test due to the fact that the smell of bacon (which I absolutely love!) made me sick to my stomach. Same went for parmesan cheese, I couldn't stand the smell of that. Before I got pregnant with my son, I didn't mind the smell or the taste of parmesan, to this day however, I still hate both the smell and the taste.
I heard somewhere that if you have cravings for stuff, a lot of the time it is because your body is lacking these things. Don't know if that's true or not though, just a fact I picked up from somewhere.

I have heard that too about cravings. I'm not sure if that is true either. I used to think it was just an excuse for women to eat more chocolate, sweets, etc.
That's funny that you can't eat Parmesan anymore. I didn't realize that could be a permanent thing.

yes, it can be a very permanent thing, and its really funny sometimes too, I used to love hot dogs, but the last thing I ate before I went into labor with my son was a hot dog, I could not stand them at all after that, for 4 years I wouldn't touch a hot dog, now I crave them when I am pregnant, but once again between my pregnancies I couldn't eat them.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, all I wanted to eat was black beans and rice! Strangest thing is I hated black beans. When I cam home from the hospital, my father in law had me a big pot of black beans and I say NO WAY am I going to eat that. My daughter loves Black beans and rice, but I won't eat them.

I craved a few things. One was Ants on a Log (celery w/ peanut butter and raisins), milk and bbq ribs. I do not even like meat, but my sonhad me eating a rack of ribs every week during the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy. Now, if I see ribs, I want to gag!

I really don't remember. My kids are 10 and 13, almost 14, so it was a long time ago. I do remember with my second baby I drank milk by the gallons. I had to bring my own jug of milk to work every day. I couldn't get enough of it.
I continued to drink milk after that but now I don't much like the taste of it. I got away from it when I developed fibromyalgia and started taking different supplements that had to be taken with water. So I drank more water and just kind of got away from the milk. Now I think it tastes kind of weird but I will have it if I need to take a pill on an empty stomach in the middle of the night.

In my first trimester I craved: watermelon, fresh peaches, and anything tomato be it juice, sauce, or whole. I would also have cravings that would satisfy themselves after one serving maybe, like 'I HAVE to have taco bell RIGHT NOW', so my husband would go get me taco bell and I'd spend the next hour heaving it up... can't eat taco bell anymore. I ate lots of pasta with butter and lemon. Some days it was the only thing that didn't make me sick. I heard that your brain can't register 'sour' and 'nausea' at the same time, and the sour flavor wins out ususally, so sucking on a lemon helps with morning sickness. I'm in my third trimester now, and occasionally I absolutely have to eat pancakes or french toast... but otherwise the cravings and aversions have calmed down. I'm thankful for that because I've somehow already gained thrity pounds and I'm not even 30 weeks! It's easier to eat a balanced diet with whole grains, fruits, and veggies, although I once loved broccoli and now... ugh. I could eat squash by the truckload though!

With my two previous pregnancies, I do not recall having any cravings. Now, with my third one, which is due soon, I craved for Sashimi (Japanese), Hainanese Chicken Rice (Singaporean dish) and pork roast for the duration of the whole first trimeseter. And aside from that, I couldn't stand the smell of food cooking! Now that I am in my 5th month, I only crave for sweet stuff. I HAVE to eat something sweet at least once a day.

We hoped and went for the scan with expectation, trepidation and anticipation. The sonographer was really very good and thorough. Towards the end of the exam I timidly broached the topic of gender.
Without missing a beat, she let the pointer hover in the pelvic area and said "what is this you see between the legs"? That is how we knew that the third one is a boy too !

i've never been pregnant before so i don't really know the feeling. but my mom used to tell me a lot of things when she was pregnant. my mom had cravings too. she said that when she was pregnant with me, she used to have cravings for pizza. and not just any pizza, she only wanted the pizza sold in a greenwich fastfood joint in quiapo (a place in manila here in the philippines). and the pizza has to be the one only with the cheese and ham. she says her mouth waters everytime she thinks about it when she was pregnant. anyway, she didn't mention anything about hating certain smells. but i did remember that she also had some mood swings.

I had morning sickness through all nine months of each of my three pregnancies. I was so sick with the first that I actually weighed 20 lbs less at the end of the pregnancy than I did when I got pregnant -- and I gave birth to an 8 1/2 lb baby.
It was the weirdest things that I could eat to settle my stomach, liver and onions was my favorite and hot roast beef sandwiches. During my first pregnancy, we lived in the San Joaquin Valley and would drive through the onion fields regularly because the smell of onions would help ease the morning sickness.
The worst craving I had was for watermelon through the winter months. There was nowhere to buy it at any price.
I don't miss those days at all.

With my first child, I craved strawberries all the time. I just could not get enough. With my second child, I craved french fries.
I would get up in the mornings and make my husband coffee for his thermos adn I would throw up from the time I opened the coffee till I washed the coffee pot. The smellCoffee made me so sick. I have never been a coffee drinker but after being pregnant, I cant stand coffee smells to this day.

My sister inlaw had a craving for food cooked in another persons house. Anything cooked in her house does not trip her. She even begged passersby for aple that they are eating. She developed exersive longing for spicy food and fruits. If she asks you for fruits and you did not get it for her you are enemies authomatically.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I craved popsicles like crazy. I could go through a box of them every day. The only thing that made me sick was the smell of rice cooking. Weird, I know.
When I was pregnant for my son, I craved ice. I would go to the 7-11 and get the Big Gulp cup full of ice and just keep refilling it all day long. I found out later that I was anemic, which was making me crave the ice. I didn't eat much with that pregnancy, either. I weighed 8 lbs less when I delivered my son than when I got pregnant.

So you actually lost weight? wow. Also, I didn't realize craving ice was a symptom of anemia. Interesting.

Yep, the ice craving is called Pica. I'm severely anemic right now (dr's are still trying to figure out why) and I eat about 4 trays of ice a day.
Yes, I lost weight during that pregnancy. I also lost 60 lbs in the month following his birth. I was significantly overweight when I got pregnant. Someone of normal weight wouldn't have this happen.

I couldn't stand smelling any bacon or meat frying. I also cried if I didn't have whole dill pickles with Turner's chocolate milk. Weird isn't it?

My first 6 months & my last 2 months I was sick so during that time I couldn't handle much of anything. The smell of meat cooking, coffee---just about anything made me very sick :) The one month that I felt great I craved pickels, mexican food, taco time-- (all the good food). Pregnancy is funny what it can do to a person-- you think you'd be super hungery all the time so you could feed that baby-- but, the smells of food is what did it for me.. I couldn't stomach much!

With one of my pregnancies I craved Dill Pickles really bad and was eating them all the time . I loved bacon but the smell of it in a house would make me so sick . I even craved shrimp which I had never tasted before . I craved them so bad that I went out and payed a fortune for some and then couldn't eat them because I didn't like them at all . How you can crave something you have never had before and then not like it is beyond me .With my other pregnancies I craved Ice Caps from Tim Hortons so bad that another friend (who was pregnant also ), would go down at least twice a day to get them and the closest one to our house was about 40 minutes away . When we were there I would get a couple of the extra large so I could take them home and freeze , so I would have one when I wanted one . My son would be the one I had the least cravings for but I still wanted stuff like potato salad (which I only ate when I was pregnant ) and Dill Pickles and stuff like that .

I couldn't tolerate the smell of fish early in pregnancy or Cheerios. Other than that, there weren't too many things I could really pinpoint, but for much of my first trimesters I wouldn't be able to eat much of anthing at all. Nothing smelled good and a lot of things tasted funny to me. The fish and the Cheerios though would make me toss my cookies! lol

I actually didn't have THAT many cravings, every once in awhile. I had a LOTTTT of aversions, though - ick! During my first trimester we ate out a lot :-O I could barely cook, the smell of food cooking made me sick... especially meat (and I love meat). I was glad when the aversions ended!
