A split personality is someone who can be totally opposite character in different circumstances. For example, a person can be all "sweetness and light", a genial type of person who appears open and co-operative when they are out in public. However, when they return home or are out of the limelight they are the total opposite.
Thankfully I have only met one person like that really and he was my boss when I was younger. He terrorised all the female staff members but if a client came in, he was totally different. Also if he was around his family, he was all smiles, kind, helpful and apparently caring. When I matured a little bit I realised that the reason he was so awful to the staff was because he misused the authority and power that he had, but couldn't do that with clients and nor could be treat his family the same way.
