I was very disappointed when I saw the movie. I wished they didn't change the characters right from the beginning. It was suppose to be a father who would search for his lost daughter, not a mother... The scenes were great, the fog effect, the darkness, the zombies... yeah, it was great. But how i wish it was more like the game... It wasn't scary... For those who play the game, yes, this film is disappointing.

I play fatal frame too.. I'm still not done with it... The ghost is scaring me a bit, makes me lose my last life over and over again.. then, game over... I wish I could skip that part soon.

well, i guess they just took the basic idea of a parent looking for their daughter.
i think you're just thinking aobut the first silent hill game right.
well, you're entitled to your opinion, if you didn't like it, you didn't like it.
i will agree on one thing, it wasn't scary.
but then i personally don't find the silent hill games that scary, i love them, but they don't scare me as much as fatal frame.

Well, I was disappointed of the movie. I have played all of the Silent Hill games. It is sweet to see those creatures and places in the movie, but overall, I think the story in the movie is just messed up. I enjoyed the visuals, but I didn't like the plot. =/

c'mon man, it's one game movie i did like,
the story definitely spoke of a 'silent hill' type,
the creatures, the environment, the music,
i've played silent hill games too, and i think the movie did a good job bringing it to the screen.
unlike other games i've played that have been made into movies, atleast this one was like the game.

yup all good and valid points.
I have seen the ring and I know that ringu was the Japanese version of it. I've heard good things about the tale of two sisters but I haven't come across it yet, I would love to watch it someday. Perhaps I'll download it.
Yeah, it's true, the psychological element of the game was missing in the movie, but then I think that some elements of video games and what feeling or effect it has on us while playing it can't really be translated to the movie. It still was better than any other game movie I've seen, but it could still be better. I guess with a movie everything is in your face, even though it doesn't have to be like that.
It's the same when a book is turned into a movie, some element is lost in translation. You really can't have it all in a matter of just 2 hours.

While i enjoyed watching the movie, i still felt it was a bit of a let down. First of all, let me make things clear. It's still the best movie game adaption i've seen. Here i will list what i liked and disliked about it:
Likes:
1)Silent Hill area is great. foggy and dark. Really brings back memories of the second game.
2) The creature from Silent Hill 2 which cybil shoots was perfect!!! 3) Considering its a movie with the intention of people to understand it, i think the story wasn't bad.
4) The movie feels disturbing and like a new experience for people who never played silent hill.
Dislikes:
1) The Psychological horror feel is almost missing! It's only in the very end that there's a really disturbing psychological theme in action.
2) The story of the little girl is thoroughly explained and rather close ended, unlike the games.
3) What's the deal with the cockroaches?? This is not supposed to be about monsters!!!
4) The movie ended up having a lot of hollywood horror cliche elements, which at times make it seem more like a Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie. What i mean is that while the first two games are more psychological, the movie is rather graphical and in your face!
5) The movie does not feel disturbing and horrific for people who played the Silent Hill games...for the simple reason that the movie is not as disturing and psychologically horrific as the games.
Overall, i would have been happier if a Japanese director directied the movie. Have you guys seen Ringu or Tale of Two sisters?? Those movies are full of psychological elements, which i think Silent Hill movie should have followed more. Anyway, i still enjoyed watching it, and i give it 6/10.

I have never played the game but loved the movie as a stand alone horror flick. The acting wasn't the greatest but the effects and imagery were very creepy and I found it a little unsettling. I'm definitely looking forward to the sequel

Yeah, "unsettling" is the perfect word for it. That's the feeling you get while playing the game, because it's not the kind of horror that stays with you, but it's the kind that is uncomfortable while you're experiencing it. The movie managed to do that, even for people who haven't played the game, so I think that can be considered as success.

I have not played Silent Hill, but I did see the movie. It was kind of confusing, and rather weird. The ending was strange, like they went into the house and there was no one there, and yet there was, only it was as if there were two dimensions overlapping each other at the same time, and anybody in one dimension could not see the people in the other dimensions.
One was reality and other a shadow of this reality. That is what made it scary, not all the fighting and blood and horror stuff.

yeah, I guess the subtle horror is much more scary than fighting creatures, even while playing the game, the scary parts are always the ones, where you are in some unknown place even though it is familiar, and there is no one around. There's just something about being alone, in a strange place, and having creatures to fight with was actually better than that. But overall the movie was good.

I really liked the movie, and I thought they did a fantastic job bringing the Silent Hill ideas into a realistic setting. It was creepy and I actually grew up about forty miles from the underground mine-fire town the based the idea off of, so that sort of lends to the creepiness factor of the movie for me. I would love to see them do a sequel where Christopher goes back to Silent Hill after receiving a strange letter from Rose, a little bit like the second game.

i like the way you think, about that sequel idea.
that's very interesting,
and what about the music of the movie, they really did a good job with bringing the feel of the game to that too.
and i can see exactly why this hit home for you, cuz it's so close to home, you're lucky.

I think the movie would be better if they sticked withthe original plot. I was not a bad movie, though. I went to see it with my boyfriend and it was less scary than I expected. Also, I liked that they used real actors to play nurses and monsters insted of doing every little thing on the computer. That gave the film a good touch. But overall I think many fans were not satisfied eith the effects. Let's be honest - japanese do better horror stories than americans:P

Yeah, you definitely got that right, Japanese do much better horror than Americans, even in the games, Japanese horror games are so much more scary to play, because other ones are just about weird creatures or zombies, whereas the Japanese are more about spirits or ghosts or trapped souls. But then the downside is that all Japanese horror tends to be similar, that's why there were so many similarities between the grudge 2 and some scenes of the game fatal frame.

Hi ! I LOVED the movie so much I hurried to download a DIVX version from ARES !! :)
The director did a great job , the movie remained true to the games in many aspects , mainly the weird kind of suspence and horror that is peculiar to Silent Hill . Whenever a feature of the game is shown , it feels like revisiting a place you know or seeing a well-known face , like when they showed the street that ends with a cliff , or the pyramid-head ! I enjoyed it and I think this movie and the Resident Evil movies are the best game-based movies (better than Tombraider??)

I absolutely love the Silent Hill games. They're some of the best horror games I've played, in terms of both plot and graphics. And the little cultural references are always fun for me to try and spot. Especially in the first one! I haven't seen the whole movie as of yet, but I've seen clips. Despite fooling around with the storyline - which is to be expected - I think they captured the spirit and atmosphere of Silent Hill very well.
Now I want to replay the games. Too bad I don't have copies of my own. :/

they definitely captured the atmosphere really well,
and the movie does that to you, i replayed one of the silent hills i have after i watched it.
i think you'll like the movie, cuz they've really kept true to the game, even when it comes to costumes and how the characters talk and behave in the game, which is more than can be said for most other game movies.

I was a little disappointed that they tried to force so much material into such a short movie. I can understand where they were trying to go, but I think it would have turned out a little better if they had given made it longer.
I think a lot of people that don't know the games didn't expect an ending like they got.
The rest of us however, knew we would be left wondering...

i did enjoy the movie, but even i think that all the material in the game requires atleast two or three parts for a movie, i mean to really get the whole scene.
about the ending, i guess if we were playing the game, this would have one of the bad endings, right?

I played the game, and I still thought the movie sucked. TERRIBLE adaptation, even if the plot DID need fleshing out....

I thought the makeup, set design, and video game-like dialogue was spot on and could be appreciated by SH fans. My only problem with the movie was the cult aspect. Didn't really seem to fit together well and made it feel like a different kind of movie. I know there are cult aspects of the games, but it seems to be on a much lesser scale. The isolation of Silent Hill (the town) is sort of lost when there's suddenly 50 cult members around. But in spite of that, I thought it was a decent adaptation compared to most video game-based movies. Just didn't really live up to its potential.

yeah, it did seem to have too many characters and that kinda takes away from the alone and scared feeling, although the cult thing is in the games, it would have been better with lesser characters, but i still think the movie did better than most game movies.
