Has your dog ever ate charcoal and what effects did it have on him/her? My dog ate a bunch of used charcoal briquetts yesterday....he seems fine for now....but he doesn't have much of a appetite today.Would love to hear your experiences with that...thanks.

It depends what kind of charcoal it was. If it's just that, with no additives, he'll be okay - they actually sell charcoal over the counter as a remedy for flatulent dogs ;) If your dog is eating strange things (a condition called pica) it way mean he has a dietary balance. It's like when humans getting odd cravings; it's their body telling them that they're missing a certain nutrient or minerals that their body needs. Or you puppy coulda just been bored. I'd keep a close eye on him though - if he eats any more odd things, you might want to check out his diet and make sure he's getting everything he needs.

dog eating charcoal will probably just end up with the same thing most mammals do .. upset stomach and possible vomiting for a couple days or so

Saki - my pug
My dog eats about anything he can get a hold of. He's eaten some pretty strange things, but charcoal isn't one of them.

try feeding some charcoal biscuits to the one not eating the others ... Dogs eating poo is natural and instinctive even if it is disgusting, basically

I dont beleive there will be a lot of trouble if your dog has eaten small quantity. but to be sure plz take him to a vet for better diagnosis and to eradicate future problems. you can visit my site for better understanding of issues related to dogs.

If they are untreated with any fire accelerant, he should be fine unless the briquette is to big to pass. If it doesn't pass in a day, or he shows signs of lethargy, take him to a vet ASAP!
