My husband is my best friend, and I do not say that lightly either, so yes lovers can also be friends. Of course there will be some people who have all sorts of expectations in both a marriage as well as from friendship and who feel that the two are not compatible. I have not found a friend who means more to me than my husband, and at the same time I do not have any other friend that I would want to share secrets with than my husband.
I think a lot depends on the expectations we have of the relationship and whether or not people actually do communicate with each other about a variety of topics. Some people don't or think that someone else is the best person to tell their deepest darkest secrets to, whereas I think that the only person to do this to is my husband. As far as I am concerned if my husband was to tell someone else something that he did not tell me, then I would think that he didn't trust me. So, as far as I am concerned if that is how I would feel, then the same applies to his feelings about me not trusting him enough to tell him a secret that I told someone else.
