Has anybody here ever quit smoking or knew anyone that has? I'm addicted to smoking, I want to stop but I just can't! Does anyone have any ideas or tips? I really want to quit because I know it's affecting my health.

To quit smoking you have to be have a strong mindset. At first try to reduce the frequency of intake, say a maximum of daily five. Then leave it altogether. And whenever your mind wants to have one, take something else, like nuts or biscuits or anything you love to eat. It works fine.

I'm not a smoker, so it's probably a hundred times harder than I imagine to quit. All I can say is that everytime you have the urge to smoke; don't.

A friend of mine used to be addicted to smoking, but he just stopped it without doing anything. He told me he just had a determination to quit. Maybe you need a strong motivation to quit smoking dear. Good luck.

Everyboby said that quit smoking is more than difficult than quit drinking alchohol. I suggest that if you really interesting to quit smoking: 1. Try to eat some menthol candy while you are willing to smoke. 2. Do some activity so that there is no time for relax with smoking. 3. Think for your family that you love them. If you have a child, and you smoke infront of them. They will be a pasif smoker that will get some problem with their health. So If you care for with your family and your health, " STOP SMOKING"

Whether you can quit or not depends at what age you picked up the habit. If it is early teens then it is very very difficult. If you started after 20 then it is comparatively easy. See I am 67, I had my first smoke when I was 12. My father was also a smoker, so smoky atmosphere is some thing I got used to, and relished from birth. I did quit quite a few times, the longest was for about an year. After a lot of reading and thought about the habit I concluded that it is more important get rid of the guilt feeling and accept what I am. By this, I am not supporting smoking but from my research on my self, I can say cold turkey has detrimental effects on the body metabolism and on one's psyche. But by all means cut down on smoking. preferably to below ten a day.

It has been several years since years since I quit but I remember well how difficult it was. I was a heavy smoker so there was no way I could quit cold turkey like some people do. What I did was slowly taper off until I was no longer smoking. It took me a couple of years but I finally did do it. I had relapses but now I have no desire to smoke at all. I can't tell you what will work for you only you can find that out. When you do find what works for you stick to it until you achieve your goal. Good luck!

Cold turkey. That is what it takes and another habit (good one) to replace the one you have now. You may want to chew gum and keep your hand busy. Hope this helps. Oh by the way the nic patches just don't work and cost a lot of money.
