I'm just wondering, where did the beatles got their name? What is meant or being symbolized by their band name? And what makes it so famous or does it contribute to their phenomenal success?

I guess their name has nothing to do with their phenomenal success, it's the way they create and write the music that made them famous. Plus the innocent looks of them added with their natural charisma, gave them instant fame in the U.K. then the whole world. Their songs are really what the world has appreciated and are still adored by the fans worldwide.

The "beat" that The Beatles introduced was unique and accepted worlwide. In that context the band name "The Beatles" seems relevant.
But I do think that it was their songs ,their composition and their indomitable lyrics that made them such a phenomenon

It was John who name his band "the beatles"but history tells us,that they had at least made couple of name before the final and official name came. They went under "johnny and the moondogs, quarrymen, silver beatles"that all I can remember. It went along with the musical trend during the sixties. It is called the beat music which was very strong in Britain and John the poetic genius made a pun out of it!sounds like a crawling bug with a musical taste!thats all it began I think,It was not so serious not really taken seriously by Lennon himself.somewhat like a laid back title for a band, compare to the existing trend of the names of the band in the 60's like gerry and the pace maker, you have bill haley and the comets and so on.It takes long. For me it became so powerful because it has only two syllables and like the beatles song it is easily remembered.
