I live in the Philippines and the cost of gas here is around Php35-40 per liter, that is roughly $2.88 per gallon of gas if converted to dollars.

I wish we could get an accurate conversion on these international prices .. one litre equals .26 US gallons, then the currency exchange has to be factored.
It is interesting to see how gasoline pricing varies around the world.

I am not sure whether or not I should be laughing or crying after reading this as well as the responses to date on the price of gas/fuel. Here in rural Australia we are paying the equivalent of $4-77 per gallon, when the price is converted from litres to gallons. Of course it is a little cheaper in the cities than it is out in the country which is where I live.
Also a lot of that would be made up of taxes, both federal and state taxes. The amount varies from state to state as well, because some states have higher taxes than others do but still the amount we are paying is way in excess of what you are. Oh well, the joys of living in the country, owning and driving a vehicle plus the freedom we have means that sometimes we have to pay for the things that we want in life. LOL

Well, I hope this discussion isn't causeing you too much pain, ossie. One thing about it, we don't have kangaroos here .. maybe that makes the difference?

I guess that Bush isn't going to keep price gouging us, is he? hmmmmmmm .. can't understand people who actually believe the price of gas is controlled by the President.

Yes, I understand your humor. It has exasperated me to hear people who try to give the aura of intelligence say that "they" were trying to train the American public, and get them used to the idea of gasoline for $3.00 per gallon. In one case, about 1.5 years ago, a local politician was spouting that opinion in public.
There is no desire to seek out facts and to really understand. It is a lot like the times when people actually believed that bad things happening to them was the result of bad luck or witchcraft working against them .. never mind the facts, just let us make up our own reasons why things happen in the universe. A lot of it is driven by class envy.
Anyway, I'm glad to have met another rational American today.

Last saw gas for 193.9 a gallon. The station down the road went back up over 2.00 yesterday though they are usually high since they are on the main drag and no where else close for gas and they have food so they think they can get bigger dollars.

I have to disagree with you that the price decrease is nationwide. Here in Vegas it ranges from 2.41 to 2.69 a gallon. But that could be because the like to jack up the prices for the tourists and tourist season here lasts from about a month before President's day to about a month after New Years. LOL

OK .. so, it isn't just in the southern states .. evidently the downward trend in the price of gasoline is nationwide.

My exhusband works for an oilcompany. And he said that the quality is not the same everywhere. The quality in Europe is much higher, than in the Continent America, that's why it is more expensive here.

I run on diesel (well my car does, hehe), which is less refined than gas, (petrol in the UK) yet at the moment it costs a bit more than gas.
The quality is ok, though I never noticed the difference in Africa or the US but I'm sure your friend is correct.
No, the difference is government tax - it is HUGE and goes up each year!!

It is because the average temperature in this winter is higher, than normally and the oil stuck on stock

Dolcinera, actually, this winter is warmer than usual, which my be contributing to the drop in price .. less consumption brings the price down.

Monday % went on a 2 and a half hour journey to the south part of my state and I was pleased to see gas had dropped down to $1.95. As i travel an hour south the price was $2.05. Both my city and this one though just had a natural disaster due to Ice last week. As I travel about 45 mls south from this town the gas Was $1.86! I was thinking that can't be right, that place must not be open because they couldn't afford to go past $1.86. well on my way back home on the other side of the road there was a new gas station in the same rinky dink town with a $1.86. I need to go to town and see if it's even lower.

I still haven't bought nay more gas yet and it's been now 2 weeks. I've been a little on the tight pocket book side though. The last time I looked at the prices here it was 1.93 as well. I guess I'll know for sure when I go to get gas in my car! I agree about the Shell stations, and the walmart and the Albertsons' their prices are cheeper due to lower grades. Also a big tip for gas buyers to make their gas buying trips a little more plentyful. It you look and you see a little white inspection sticker on each pump. If you notice there is a number marked with anegative or positive on them with a sharpie marker. This indicates how much you are really getting for your gallon. So look for a sticker with a positive rating!

I have seen a Shell gas station with $1.84 posted, but I think it was a lower grade than 87 octane. We need the help .. this much lower price for gasoline will enable people to spend money on other things .. that stimulates the economy.

I paid $1.899 for gasoline this evening, but passed stations with prices from $1.869 to $1.969. So, the prices seem to be going down overall, but have not stabilized.

I don't believe most of what I hear in the media. What some people don't realize is how much of what you pay at the pump is for local taxes that have been added on to the price of gas. That is why when you travel you come across spots where the price is really high or really low.

Don't you think if George W was the cause of the price of gas getting so high a couple of years ago, that he'd really be jacking up the prices now, instead of letting them go down? I mean, he doesn't have to get re-elected .. if he caused the prices to get higher so he and his oil buddies could get richer, why isn't he REALLY working it now? hmmmmmmmmmmm

That's cheap!! We pay by the litre here, and today, it was .76/litre, so, that works out to about 2.87 a gallon. So, consider yourself very lucky. 2.87 is cheap compared to lots of places in Europe.

Im not sure about per gallon, but in Canada we do litres. Per litre in Toronto it is about 70-85 cents a litre with the gas prices jumping up and down everyday. One gallon equals approximately 4 litres in the US and 4.5 litres in the UK so oviously your gas is cheaper

I don't know anymore, because I finally took the plunge and quit driving. (Well, I do drive sometimes, if I have to go out of the city, but that's pretty rare.)
For years I've been challenging myself to do this. I finally just got fed up with expensive gas, crazy drivers, and constant car troubles. Walking and bussing isn't the greatest thing in the world, but I was amazed to discover what a weight off my shoulders it is... much less stressful... not to mention less expensive!

Taxes, most likely. Just because they don't have income tax doesn't mean there isn't the same amount of taxes in Florida as elsewhere .. maybe more! Gas tax, VAT tax, etc.

So .. that is about $3.00 per gallon, but we don't know the conversion rate from your currency to US dollars. I live near Atlanta, in the state of Georgia, in the USA. And, I found $1.899 per gallon for gasoline today!

Let's see...
litre to gallon conversion is 3.785 litres = 1 gallon
so 88.9 cents / litre works out to 3.365 $CAD per gallon
converting to US dollars at a rate of 1.1600 would make that
2.900 $US per gallon
PS: I live in Nova Scotia Canada. The provincial government regulates the price of gas here, changing it every two weeks to reflect the New York harbour daily spot price.
