Govenor Kathleen Blanco angrily criticized President Bush on Wednesday for not mentioning 2006's destructive hurricanes in his State of the Union speech, and said Louisiana is being shortchanged in federal reocovery funding for political reasons.
Being that very little has been done for the people of New Orleans, outside ot the French Quarters and downtown area, has President Bush failed the people of New Orleans?
I personally think he is too embarrassed to bring up the subject because of his mishandling of the situation.
What do you think?Lloyd

The government of Louisiana failed New Orleans. It was a federal matter. You can't just blame it on Bush because it happened while he was president. I don't know why he needed to mention the hurricane that happened so long ago. There has been tons done for New Orleans, but people need to do more. The question really begs the question about federal responsibilities and state responsibilities, but I really don't see any point in trying to blame Bush for it.
I personally find it really ironic that those that didn't leave NO before the Hurricane complain about no one helping them when they were repeatedly told to leave and decided it wasn't dangerous enough on their own. Obviously their own expertise was enough to tell them it wasn't too dangerous.

yes i agree with you. You cannot blame just one person for that mess up. As for the people not leaving-wow-it wouldn't be a minute if i were told to evacuate. I was in New orleans the week before this happened, and to be honest it wasn't clean when i was there. In fact it was the dirtiest city i've ever been too. But thats besides the point. I feel very badly what happened to all of those people who lost thier homes. I guess if you live below sea level that is a possibility of a hurricane. Some of the people from new orleans have a better life than before the hurricane. i think our government is and has done a fair job of taking care of our people.

well it takes more than one president to get us into this situation. i don't agree with all of his politics and this war thing. But, he didn't create all of the problems we have here. There were several presidents before him that made plenty of screwups for him to fix. He was barely in office when 911 hit. I think the media is to blame for any failure.

I for one was shocked when I drove through New Orleans. I had not been there for many years and I was shocked at the
destruction I saw.
That being said, hundreds of millions of dollars have been poured into Lousiana. People from all over the country have contributed money. Millions of dollars are currently sitting
there, unused by the State/City.
I don't know really what to say other than get some new leaders down there who wont skim money from it's citizens. I bet your Mayor's house/neighborhood is liveable. Same with all of your City Council and State Representatives..Demand action from them.

Get over it. There has been a tremendous amount of money and effort from the entire country given to New Orleans. If that is not helping, and if there is not gratitude, then let's just shut it down.

I wholeheartedly feel for the people that were affected by Hurricane Katrina. It is 17 months since the hurricane and 13,000 people are still living in FEMA trailers. I think the Governor of LA has every right to feel that her state has been slighted, as have the people of MS. They feel forgotten and hopeless and it is sad. I do not think President Bush felt embarrassed and didn't want to bring up the subject. I think he has all of his energy focused on his own war agenda, and that the problems of our own country come second to him and his administration. He has put all his efforts and budgeting into the war when we needed to make the welfare of our own citizens a priority. Sorry, about my rant, just my humble opinion.

I sort of agree with you. However, it is not just on the President to help put the city back together. There are so many issues at play that unless you live here, you don't reall yget what is going on. For MONTHS the Mayor was MIA you didn't see or hear from him (supposedly he was touring with Spike Lee, but who really knows) and then he appears. After crime has run rampant, after the decided to take over a year to try to rebuild everything, after everything had collapse....oince again the city is in ruins, it is just empty now. Yes, the President should back the people trying to rebuild in this speech and also financally, but it is not his sole responsibility. He should be down her kicking the butt of the mayor and all of the fools who don't know their head from their butt. As much as I hate Bush, I think he would do a better job rebuilding this city that Mayor Nagin has. Also, the people who re-elected him don't even live her and shouldn't have been allowed to vote! If thos people weren't bused in, there would have been a Mayor who had acted in place and the city would not be in the state it is in today.

no......he didn't fail...i guess i am tired of the government..tax payers,,always bailing people out of disasters...sounds callous but what the hell..think about it, why should the government be in the business of helping disaster victims?
