Among Jewish people it is essential for the boys to be circumcised.

That's what I've heard but I never knew why they felt it was essential.

Jewish people still abide by the Old Testament rules in the Bible regarding circumcision. It's a mandated religious thing for them.

There are many different reasons that people chhose to have their sons circumcised. I personally thought about having it done because my son's father had it done, but then I decided against it. I couldn't imagine making him suffer through the pain, and since his dad wants nothing to do with him it doesn't make a difference that he is "different" than his father.

I'm sorry his father is missing out - it's his loss. I wish you nothing but luck in raising him. Little boys are such a joy!

hi there, im not expecting a son nor do i have one, i had a little girl, lol. if that option i had to choose, id have to go with no, in a way i don't agree with children having pain or babies, that's the reason why i wouldn't let him have it done even tho my partner had it done when he was alot younger, and i really see it as pointless, i don't know why but just do! :O)

my son was circumcised when he was only 10 months old due to recurring urinary tract infection. but if in case he didn't get sick early on, i would still have him circumcised at the usual age of 8 or 9 years old, for hygienic purposes.

Wow, 8 or 9 years old!? I can't imagine - here in the U.S. most people who have it done, have it done when the baby is still in the hospital 1-2 days after birth. I would think it would be worse to wait until they are 8 or 9 but that's just my opinion.
I'm sorry to hear your baby was sick. I hope things are well now.

i had it done to my son. i heard that it keeps them from getting UTIs. thats the main reason i got it done for him. also i dont want other kids to make fun of him eaither, like when he gets into high school. kids can be so crule.

I had never heard that - very interesting.
You're right though, kids can be cruel but I think now-a-days - it's about half and half so it might not be so "weird" to not have it done.

if there are no medical reasons to do so such as phimosis, or religious reasons, then i would say let the child grow up and decide for himself. :)

i dont have a son but if i had one i would have him circumsized..i have talked to doctors and they have explained that uncircumsized men are prone to urinary tract infections..bec dirt or germs(sorry couldnt find any other words)pile up at the excess skin..i think the main reason for circumcsion is for hygene benefits..

This has turned into quite a hot topic in recent years. I have 2 sons and both of them are circumcised. When my first son was born in the 80's, no one ever thought much about it-- it was just always done. When I had my second son a few years ago, I actually thought long and hard about it. I decided to get it done, because his older brother and Dad had it done.
My sister's son is not circumcised and I tell you-- it looks very unusual to me. With all due respect to men who have not been circumcised, I'm just not used to seeing it that way.
