Sticky Paws -Keep your cat from shredding your furniture.

Sticky Paws is a double-sided tape that adheres to your furniture on one side and is sticky on the other. Cats do not like the stickiness on their paws and as a result do not scratch on the surface. Here is a link to purchase this:http://www.stickypaws.com/stickypawscom/productsSPOAR.cfm
I have used this product with great success. It does attract hair and other dust particles, so you will need to periodically change the tape.

What a cool idea, but for me the furnature isn't the problem, it's the carpet. LOL I would like to cover all of my carpet in this stuff, but sadly I would stick to it myself, from walking. LOL

Our friend's cat is a rug scratcher. I am having problems with her with this. I sprinkle a little catnip on the Turbo Scratcher to get her to scratch at that. It works until the nip gets on the carpet.

When I had my cats I did try this tape .. to be honest it's much cheaper to buy ordinary double sided sticky tape .. I also found it a real problem to keep clean .. you only need for your pet to go past it once and there are so many hairs it needs replacing ..
Personally I found it much easier to train my cat not to scratch the furniture .. a firm NO and gently pushing the cat away from the furniture soon did the trick and after just a few weeks I never had anymore problems for the 20 years I had my beloved cats ..

Hmmm, I wonder if it would do the same for rabbits that tear up the carpet. Would be nice if it did. It would save me a lot of money in the long run.

You know, this sounds like a better remedy than the 'soft paws' that I read about here on Mylot yesterday. People were saying that the soft paws that you put on your pet's paws just fall off. This sounds like a much better deterrent to keep your cats or other clawed pets from tearing up your furniture! I'll definitely keep it in mind for when I have pets around the house again. What a great tip, thank you! ^_^

You are most welcome. My husband freaked out when our cat began attacking our furniture. The Sticky Paws really did the trick. She didn't like that sticky stuff on her paws.

My friend had a similar problem with his dog jumping onto furniture he didn't want it on. He ended up putting loaded mouse traps on the furniture so if the dog jumped up it would either rattle the trap or would snap when he touched it and the loud noise would scare the dog. I don't think hes ever been snapped by the trap somehow, but he doesn't jump on the furniture anymore.

This is a good tip. This is one of the ways obedience trainers suggest you use to keep your pets off of things.

That would defeat the purpose though. I know you don't want to hurt your pet, but that is somewhat of the point. The noise and the possibility of getting hurt is suppose to drive them away from the area. Similar to what the shock pads do.

Wow, great idea. It would probably work for the cats that jump on the counters too. You could cover them with a towel and add sponge like material to them so they would not cause injury to the pet.

I got a product that's even better and no worrying about hair and dust. It's called soft paws. Pretty much they are caps the shape of a cat's claw and u glue them on with this special glue they come with. My cat has had the same set on for 5 months now and Ive done nothing to keep them up. I got mine at petsmart.

we had looked at these for our cats. It is just easier to keep their claws trimmed, give them a place to actually scratch, and train them to listen when you say no.

Yes, you are correct. I bought this tape last year because my cat started scratching are new furniture, which is now almost a year old and on the one side has been literally shredded. The tape, however, is still in the same original spot where he started. It looks horrible. I throw my apghgan over the arm of the area and let it lay and hide the taped area. You cannot completely cover with apghgans though, right? I bought the herbal spray which my cat dislikes and spray all of the furniture and my now new curtains. It has to be done for a couple of days in a row and then repeated as needed. They still scratch and damage has already been done. Ya know I waited 3 years to get that furniture!! I have filled a can with pennies and when he scratches, I throw the can near. Just scares her away but works when I am there. I have just ordered slipcovers for my furniture. They will be ugly but I am covering the shredded furniture. Good luck. Soft paws do not stay on. I guess you can throw covers over it and then when people come over, remove them. Lots of luck

I will definetly have to order some. We were given some very nice furniture and we put some of my son's toys in front of the corners at night so the cat's won't scratch it, but I like that idea better because my one cat uses my son's Elmo chair as her bed! But at least they are not scratching the furniture. We have 2 scratching post set up and they use those along with the old set of furniture I had.

Our friend's cat tries to use the couch as a scratching post. We get her over to the Turbo Scratcher as quick as possible. They would let her scratch their furniture all that time. I really fear for my furniture. Hopefully the Sticky Paws will deter her.

before we also some catsat home, we usually cut their nail to avoid stickiness and scrathes on the furnitures and even stuffs that will make the cats iritated.

For some reasons that does not work with our cat. We got a double-sided tape one time and put it on our counter. It only worked for a week and the next week she was back on the counter and didn't care about the tape at all.

My sister bought soome of this because she had a rescue kitten that kept trying to use her new couch as a scratching spot. She put it on a couple of times and thought her daughter was taking it off. When my niece came home my sister was waiting to let her have it. Well my niece denied removing it. Then just a few minutes after that she saw the dog run behind the chair on the other side of the room. She went and looked, there was 5 strips of the darn tape all balled up. She put more on and watched from the kitchen. He went over and kept licking it till he got a corner up and pulled it off. Then he ran and put it behind the chair. She said she never laughed so hard. God only knows what the dog was thinking, maybe he was helping the cat?? She said she has gotten the dog to stop and it does work to stop the kitten from scratching, especially since the dog is leaving it alone.

We had a problem when it was first applied. If it was recently placed on the furniture and we got too close to it with our clothes, it would stick and peel off.

Hi there...Sticky Paws is a great training deterrent for cats, however many people do not realize that packing tape works effectively well if they cannot purchase the Sticky Paws product too.
We (professional animal trainers) suggest this product or packing tape for aversion training who would like to train cats from inappropriately clawing or deter cats from surfaces such as kitchen countertops and the like as well.
