So I have been talking to my girlfriend's father about business and opening a small business like a tanning salon or maybe like a small restaurant to start with since he has his own restaurant and experience. Anyway so her father is willing to go into business with me by helping me with the down payment which is great and he also offered me to work with him in his restaurant to learn and get some restaurent experience before going into restaurant business and before managing one myself, or even taking over his restaurant with my girlfriend as he also mentioned to me as well. So I have great opportunities, and only disadvantage is that I live in Montreal and his restaurant is Cornwall, Ontarion. It's about 45 minutes to an hour from Montreal, Ihave to move in that case, but not a big deal.

That's a good start for you. I suggest you move to the most nearest place where the resto is located so that it's more convenient on your part.

If it's worth going into business with your girlfriend's father, than it's worth traveling 45 minutes to work or the hassle of moving. I think for a first business, you're much better off with something more likely to succeed. A restaurant is a huge gamble. You permits, licenses and insurance you have to have. The amount of expensive equipment you must have. Depending upon the type of place, the size of the staff, the constant purchasing of food, etc. Not to mention, your food better be good enough to keep customers either coming back or spreading a good word about the place. Nothing can kill a restaurant faster than bad word of mouth. Something like tanning salon can pay itself off in no time. It's a one time purchase of equipment. All you have to do is clean them There is very little overhead expenses except the start up costs and electricity thereafter. Do your research though and see if people really want one where you're at. And of course, there aren't to many there ready to compete with you. Of course there's so much more to consider. I personally wouldn't choose either but you have to follow your heart. Once you're committed to something, there's no changing your mind. One last thing. Because this is a girlfriend and not a wife, I hope things last or there are going to be big problems when you split. ‹(°¿°)›

I mean the restaurant has been there for 10 years and running like crazy, the best and most know restaurant in Cornwall and has a good reputation in Montreal as well.
