Okay parents! Do you check on your children at night?

Do you check your children while they are sleeping? I cannot go to bed without checking in on my girls. They are 10 and 13. I have found myself lying in bed, realized I forgot to check on them and get up again. I want to make sure they are sleeping well, covered up, not hanging over the edge of the bed, etc. Sometimes we talk while they are sleeping. Sometimes I find them in funny positions or wearing funny outfits - then I get my camera and take pictures. LOL! I have been checking on my children since they were babies. My baby is 13 and I still check on her. Do you think I will ever stop?

I completely understand where you are coming from. I have three children (4, 2, and 7 months). I check on them before i go to bed, and a few times in the middle of the night. I also check on them if i wake up for some odd reason. I thought maybe i would get over it, but they're my kids, and i want to make sure they are okay.

I guess it's a mother's instinct thing. My husband never checks on the kids, even if he is alone with them and I am away overnight. I told him he doesn't know what he's missing. My girls usually reach up and hug me.

I'm worse then this. I actually have both my kids sleeping in my room with me. My son is only 1 and my daughter is 4. I have tried to put my daughter into bed in her own room, but I have panic attacks and was up 100 times a night just making sure she was okay. So I just decided to move her in my room and it's been that way for about 3 years. I think she slept in her room for the first year. LOL! I need help! I just can't stand my kids being in another room at night. Scares me.

My first born was in the same room as me for her first night home from the hospital... maybe two nights. I heard every little sound out of her mouth. It kept me awake most of the night so I moved her into the crib in the nursery. (I did have a monitor). Now I only sleep with my kids when they have the stomach flu.

Yes, I still do... and they are 16 and 13!! The 13 yo still goes to bed before I do, so I always check on her. Occasionally I like to go to bed early and read before the 16 yo is asleep, so I may fall asleep before her... but that's rare. I just sleep better if I peek in at them!

Yes, there is the odd occasion I will go to bed early and fall asleep before my 13yo, so I don't check on her. My girls leave their doors open but I always close them because if DH is working I don't want him waking them when he is coming or going.

You will stop checking on them in a few years, when they go to bed later than you do. I checked on my kids each night before they went to sleep, and still do check on the little ones, but the teens, forget it, sometimes they do not get to finish studying until after midnight. and I have since long retired.

I don't know. I am quite the night owl. And when they start going out at night, I will be waiting up for them. There will be no sleeping for me until they are home.

Always get a tuck in before we go to bed, usually they have all the blankets thrown off and like you sometimes we catch a funny position. I hate when I am away for a business trip and I do not get to do the tuck in before I go off to bed.

I to check on my children every night. I have 2 daughters, who are three and two, and a son who is one. I do the same thing sometimes, climb in to bed and find that I can't go to sleep because I have yet to go and make sure that they are in thier beds and under the covers. Sometimes I find my two year old under the covers in the middle of her bed completley naked, no pajama's and no diaper. It's quite funny. Then my older daughter who sleeps in the same room likes to lie in her bed side ways, which means her knees to her feet are hanging off the bed, not covered by blankets at all. And my son, well he just like to sleep on top of the blankets. I hope that I never grow out of it or want to stop. They are so precious to me.

My kiddos are 3 and 4 1/2, and I do this every night. I put them to bed, and then I check on them before I go to sleep. :) Sometimes, I may look in on them if I have to wake up to go to the bathroom.. but it just depends on how tired I am, or how cold it is. (If it's really cold, I'll check to make sure they're covered).

Yes I check on my kids every night before I go to bed. I want to make sure they are comfortable. I want to make sure they are warm and if they arent I put the covers on the them or if they are too hot I take the covers off. It their legs are sticking out I put them back and always give them a kiss before I leave the room for the night.

I ALWAYS make sure to check on my kids before I go to bed, and if I get up in the night to pee, I go check on them then too. I do the same thing. I have a 2 year old that HATES blankets, and he always kicks them off, so I make sure to check on him often to cover him back up. I take pictures of them too, I have a tonne of them sleeping with their butts stuck up in the air, I love when they do that, it's so cute.

When, on the odd occasion, both my girls are on a sleepover on the same night, I still glance towards their bedrooms only to realize they are not there. Nice to meet you too.

You are a very loving, protective mother. You will probably always check on your children, as long as they are living with you. My daughter is 12 years old and I still check on her at night. I get up several times at night to go to the bathroom. When I walk past her bedroom (she leaves her door open at night) I peak in on her, or sometimes if I am really tired I just listen to hear her breathing, then I walk by.

Even though our kids stay with us in the room (we're living in my MIL's house and have only 1 room allocated for us), I check on them all the time. I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night to see if they're ok. Things could happen when I'm asleep, like blankets or pillows could go over their faces which would cause them to suffocate, sometimes their diapers could leak and their clothes and our bed could get wet from it, one baby might be lying down on the other baby's parts and could cause sprain to the other baby, etc. There are a lot of things that we don't think would happen, but it does happen. It's better to be safe than sorry. I think I'll eventually be able to stop monitoring them, but maybe it'll be at the age where I know they'll be able to try to avoid these things happening by themselves. I almost stopped monitoring my firstborn when she was more than a year old, but when I gave birth to my now 5-month old son, I find myself always waking up at night to check on both of them to see if things are alright. I can relate with you with regards to getting a camera and taking a snapshot of my kids when they're in funny and cute positions, like when I see my eldest hugging her baby brother, when they sleep back to back, etc. Aren't kids so adorable? Hehe.

I don't care if I wake my kids up. When I do I get arms outstretched for a hug, and sometimes some pretty funny conversations since they aren't really awake.

I check on them all the time. I can't do it with my 1 1/2 year old so much b/c he'll wake up and be up all night but I do it with my 2 1/2 year old all the time. I can't help it.
