I live in India and I feel good that I am living in a free country but am I really free because deep down my heart I still feel that I am not free because we are still exploited by rich people and politicians which is only making them more stronger and richer and we are getting nothing in return and once we elect someone then there is nothing we can do until next election and till then he can do anything he wants. We are still not free from corruption and poverty and politicians always try to capitalise by creating division on religious grounds and there is nothing we can do even if we live in a free country. Reservations are made on castes and religion instead of merits and we still say we live in a free country where we can do anything.
Thanks for reading my posts as I just want to clear my heart by shouting here in mylot.
I create this post because soon there is going to be ellection in our city and all the relgious parties are coming every day to beg for votes and I ask myself where were all this political parties hidden until now.

Freedom is just an illusion. We claim to be free in the United States but we're not really. We have to pay taxes on everything wheither we want to or not or go to jail. You have to have license to drive, run a business or sell pretty much anything. The goverment tells you what you can or can't legally do or again, you go to jail. Now they are trying to make it illegal to smoke in your own car. What next? Your home? To me that is stepping way over the line.At the rate it's going we're going to have to call ourselves 'the land of the free only if it doesn't offend anyone else'.Okay, that's my rant for the day.

They will promise over and over at the election day but when the time comes they will forget you. The prices are getting high. they said the economy are going high but it wasnt felt by the poor people and all of the advantages were all taken those who are in the position...Am i right?

It may surprise some here, but this could easily have been written by a UK citizen or an American.
Only Corporate ambition and power can really explain the similarity. Politicians are performing across the world according to the great Corporation plan. The people, mere consumers supplying the power that the Corporations grow on, cannot see the real power behind the politicians. as long as religious and racial division flames can be fanned then the plan can go ahead uninterupted.

Remember the song which goes: freedom isn't free, you've got to pay a price, you've got to sacrifice for your liberty. Besides, there will never exist total freedom for anyone. They say, your freedom ends where mine begins. Freedom in a democracy simply guarantees freedom of speech/expression, freedom of religion, (Icannot remember everything, sorry)...
Freedom from hunger, freedom from oppression, freedom from ignorance and a lot more cannot be included. It depends upon us how we cope from day to day in order to overcome them all.

I couldn't have said it better.
What you must do if you feel opressed by the politicians is speak out.
Make yourself heard. If there isn't a political party that represents your opinion work towards forming one.
Look at the individual contestants from your region and support them.
Fight against corruption, it isn't the easiest thing to do but we can only overcome it if everybody makes a tiny bit of effort.

If I can say one thing is that democracy is sort of a joke. It is better than communism in a sense but people are a bit too free to do what they want. Some laws are stupid and pointless, only because my country is democratic. If we took more of a communist approach there would be less crime, but the only bad thing about communism is it is too strict, and the government takes all the money for themselves leaving the people to work for them earning very little.

Yes India is a great democratic country. The elections are held for choosing the Government. Indian constitution has given various rights to people and at the same time people have certain duties too. But people are conveniently forgetting their duties. I really don't know how many people take part in the elections. If the bad systems need to be changed every person in India should vote freely and choose their leaders who will be answerble to people. I am sure since the elections are round the corner, dear wasim vote for the party which is genuine and secular.

I also live in india and really freedom here means nothing as powerfull people impressing there needs and demand s and way of life on weaker segments... all those religious parties that impress there beliefs and demands on the younger and more weaker people.... its really a big mess out here... money rules... and no democracy at all.. its in a big need to be sorted.
And wasim bro... i would like to thank you as you gave me a chance to shout out myself...

Dear Wasim, The same thing is happeining here in my country Nigeria (maybe you might have been there) cause we have a lot of Indians here. So all we have to pray is that God should help us. Even here we dont have much hope in the coming election cayse all the same people still got themselves in somehow mostly by the ruling party here: this are people that will do eveil and stand by it cause no one can do anything. We even have one by the name Alahaji Adedibu resident in Ibadan who is the Garrison Comander of Evil (GOE)! imagine and all this people are nowhere to be found when we were fighting for democracy while under the tyranny rule of Late Gen. Abacha.
May God help us hope you beleive in HIM.

Yes ofcourse every indian is proud to be an indian.Since we r very clever,we always find reasons to prove anything or everything right(practice makes a man perfect). In past our country was famous for its spiritual cultural influence on world, but in future our country will be famous for its politicians(after all they create each and every problem despite they win elections, ppl cast vote for them)
We r really great!!!!(coz politicians are also indian)

In a democracy, we are like flies trapped in a jar. We are told to fly anywhere and however we want and believe we are indeed free.

Hello fellow indian,
first let me wish you happy republic day. yes i feel India is democratic and secular country. And yes we are free as we got freedom from britishers b'coz of freedom fighters. But still we like most countries are not mentally free as we try to ape the west. If anyone wins gyanpti rpize in literaure nobody notices but if aperson wins booker prize he is hailes as genius by everybody. Then if our film wins filmfare award we are not happy but if we ever manage to win oscar i think they will they have conquered the world which is not right. As this shows we have inferiority complex and needs certificates from foreigners to prove our competence.
And yes if want to to toally free we would have to get rid of corruption and poverty and illitracy as they are slowing our nation's progress. Besides reservations based on caste and religion is very backward step as it creates tension & division in society which is exploited by politicians for vote bank politics.
I disagree with yout hat we can' do any thing apart from voting out bad governments after % years. We can protest against anti people's govt. policies by street protests, campaigns, mass awareness campaigns, by creating youth movemnts, socail reform movements we can put pressure govt. to act and do the neediful. then now we can petition courts using pubilc interest letigitations, then use right to information RTI act to get the info we ned to bring accountability. Then media can also pay imp. role and through internet and through NGOS we can meet likeminded people and create public awarewness. So there lot to be optimistic about. Think about it.

I think that if you focus on why you are noe free you will stay in that way!Even if your chained in locks you can still be free! Your physical body may be trapped but your mind and spirit is still yours! and that what matter the most.Try not to focus too much on what others have, becuz when all is said and done we will no longer be on this earth in this form.
