why isn't gmail open to public?

i just dont understand why gmail planned this "invitational" system... why isn't gmail open for public use like yahoo mail or any other email service provider? i dunno, just pondering.=)

yea i think to control the numbers and know who is joining their website and stuff like that meanwhile if u want a gmail invitation i could send u one. u can email me at lifemaximum@gmail.com and state wich address u want me to send the invitation to.

I think it is so just to keep the number of user under check....as explosino in hte number ofuser will only stress their resources and will result i n a possible collapse of the system.....

I think Gmail does not require any invitation any more.Now anyone can open or register a new g-mail account without any invitation.

ahh!! that is really strange really!! why gmail is not open to the public!?? maybe cause its good!!or maybe cause it will be slow if there is much people on it maybe..i really dont know

i think gmail is open for public, just the way to sig up is different. we should use invitation if we want to have gmail account or with mobile phone.thats why not a lot of people have gmail account, so different if we compare with yahoo.

Hi khitkhat, I got a gmail account,too. I think the service is quite good. It's safe. Maybe that's why they wanna get in control of the number of users.
