why isn't gmail open to public?

i just dont understand why gmail planned this "invitational" system... why isn't gmail open for public use like yahoo mail or any other email service provider? i dunno, just pondering.=)

Virgoves Hi khitkhat, I got a gmail account,too. I think the service is quite good. It's safe. Maybe that's why they wanna get in control of the number of users.

well, i live in the philippines..=) we say i love you like this.. "mahal kita" or "gusto kita"..=) what about in your country? how is it pronounced?=)

Virgoves Wow...khitkhat from philippines? In Vietnam, we say I LOVE YOU the most different in asia...I guess! Coz...We say it depends on gender and age...Example: Guy say to girl-- "ANH YEU EM!" But girl say to guy-- "EM YEU ANH!"
