My boyfriend and I have been out of jobs, but he just got one and hes working there today. We don't have any money and as of right now we basically have nothing to eat but PBJ's. We have no milk, no butter, no eggs...
I open the fridge and see nothing. We should be getting money soon I hope. What do you do when you run out of money?

Hard to do when you only have one car because you lost the other one and my boyfriend and I can't share a car because his job he just got is way too far away. I am auctioning things we own on eBay for money... so in a way I am making as much as he is... but hes the problem...
It takes 1 week for an auction to end
3+days for the person to pay you
3-5 days to receive the payment from paypal
Soon I should receive money from paypal and we can FINALLY go get groceries!!!!!

Check with the services in your area see if there are any food banks. There are many where you don't have to register with Welfare in order to get them. They might only do a one time thing but it might help until the money comes in. Often the food is a lot of cans or sweet things but it can tide you over. Other then that you can try applying for emergency food stamps. That sometimes comes in right away and can help until the money comes in.

Why don't you qualify for food stamps? Do you have a food bank in your area? What about calling your church and asking if they can help you? Is there really no place you could go on foot to apply for a job? I live in a very small town with extremely limited job opportunities but I could walk to the bar or grocery store and ask if they needed help. Where do you get the money to pay for your internet service? Perhaps that money could be used for food or bus fare to find a job. I hope these suggestions help. Best wishes.

Do you have any dry or canned goods in your cupboard? I always seem to find something. I usually have a bag of dry beans and a bag or box of rice (about 90 cents each) and this can make a cheap and easy meal. If you have a 50 cent box of spaghetti lying around, make an asian sauce for it out of the PB (thinned out with hot water and soy sauce).
Hope you get money soon...good luck to you!

I see that you live in the U.S. Most cities have a food bank or food pantries at churches and other community organizations where you can get free groceries if you are in need. If you are not aware of any, call Social Services in your city or town.

Do you have parents or friends that can lend you some money til your boyfriend gets his first check? Do you have a credit card that you can use so you can get some food? If you have any money at all, you can get some food items real cheap at a dollar store if you have them there. I am sure someone would be willing to help you two out til he gets paid.

i know your unemployment benefits are different to over here in australia but i am sure there are places there that can offer help while you are in a time of need (as others have mentioned. there is no shame in asking for help when in need but i do wonder why you are on the computer whinging about it instead of either asking family/friends for a loan even or finding these places. as much as some people dont know where to find these places, my belief is that there has been enough information in movies and on tv that you can work out where to go for help. even if its just for a few groceries to last you till your boyfriend gets paid. i know that its not always easy to get work and some people have been fortunate in being able to always have enough bit i know not everyone does. id go to try and get some help from one of those places before selling everything off on ebay...and as others have said, if you feel bad about it then you can donate or volunteer there when you are back on your feet and able to help someone iin the same position.
i hope i didnt sound too harsh as i didnt mean to...i know what its like when things get tough...but in this day and age i really thought more people realized there was help available if you just ask.
good luck to you and your boyfriend and may you have enough soon.
i wish everyone enough. (it was from a little email i got one day and i think its beautiful...i might post it for people to read if i can find it lol)

I am so sorry that you are in that position. But it didn't happen over night. Next time, try save up your money, like 10% for days just like this. If you don't get a real job soon, you will be like this for a long time. Keep trying to find work. If you want, I can give you a job online that requires just a computer. No phones and you can work whenever you want and get the money as soon as you make it. It is a search engine run by humans and I help people find info on the computer. I get paid $5 an hour and if you work on it a lot you could earn $10 an hour. Just let me know. It could help you out a lot.

I personally would be looking for a job. Have you applied to any yet? I'm a little confussed on how you and your boyfriend have been making it this far, without money. You'll get no where without money.

Most towns have a FoodBank....you can go there to get some free Grocerys.
Salvation Army or Churches will help also. You may not get the best food from those places....but hey it's food. These kind off places rely on food and money donations from people in the community.....so if you take some free food from them now....please give some back when you are in better shape money wise...so can help others just like yourself.Good luck to you!!!

when i was single and on my own i would run out of money occasionally and i would then call my mom or dad and ask for groceries, not for money but for food. they would usually send me a gift card to safeway or something like that or tell my sisters to come and feed me. but after a certain age it isnt cute anymore so i had to learn to fend for myself so i learned how to buy groceries that i could make three or four meals out of. if you can't ask family for help go to the food bank in your city. and just promise yourself that when you get ahead of the game that you will give back to the food bank so they can continue to help others in your situation. when you get back on your feet try visiting this website : www.kraft.com and find their everyday dinner tab and then their plan ahead tab it will give you a ton of ideas for dinners to make from one bag of groceries. hope this helps and good luck on finding another job.

I have been in a similar situation myself. There are organizations set up to help you . Try looking for your local food bank. that can help you get through some rough patches as far as food goes. Some local churches might also be able to point you in the right direction.

If i am in same situation first i will check for credit cards, next i will try to borrow money from friends. If i didn't get than i will sell off some of the belongings.

I go to a friend or my family and ask to borrow some money and that I will pay them back soon as I get back on my feet.
