Do you play a sport or go to a gym to work out and keep fit?

We're always reading nowadays that people (even kids) are unfit and obese because they don't keep fit or play enough sport. I used to play a lot of tennis at school, but admit I don't do much exercise now. I feel a bit guilty sometimes but I just can't seem to find the time somehow. So how about you? What sport do you take part in?

You don't necessarily have to play a sport or go work out in order to be fit. For me the things that I do to stay healthy and fit is to #1 eat right and #2 stay active. I don't make it a point to excercise unless I need to be in shape for anything. Basically I walk during lunch and walk a lot more when I go places in town. I live in the city near everything so it is very easy for me to walk everywhere instead of driving. If I need to get something from teh grocery store it is a 5 minute walk so I'll do that instead of getting in my car and driving. If I eat lunch out from work I will walk instead of driving somewhere. It is amazing just how much a little extra activity would do for most of us.

I agree that walking is good - especially for people who are slightly older (like me!) I work in a city too (the centre of London) so I always take the tube and walk, as it is expensive and difficult to take a car into central London anyway - and the walking does me god. Thanks for your answer.

I try to be as active as I can so I walk, do pilates adn yoga (tapes) and stay busy during the day. The only problem with the gym for me is that I have ulceritive colitis, so I can have a "flair" at any moment and I do. I don't even like to travel due to this; I have to know where every bathroom is on the way.

That must be very painful and awkward for you. Glad that you can still enjoy some forms of travel and sports. Thanks for contributing to this discussion.

My new years resolution is to be healthy, not just by making healthy choices in what I eat, but also by getting back into a regular fitness regime. So far this year i've been doing quite well, i've set up a routine which I stick to 3 times a week. It consists of going on my step machine, doing a few lifts with my weights and doing some sit ups. I already feel lots better for it...although this morning I did do my exercises and then bake a cake, hmmmm maybe I haven't quite got it right yet - lol!

I have found that splerging from time to time helps keep me from getting in a diet rut. Your body gets used to the low calorie diet and you dont loose as much so about once a week I let myself have some goodies !

LOL! You and me both!!! I do walk a bit and that's about all. I used to try and go swimming once a week with a couple of girlfriends, but somehow we all stopped doing that too. We keep on talking about starting up again - but hasn't happened yet!

I go to the gym.
But what I enjoyed most is when I participate in group exercises.
Coz you get to sweat a lot and enjoy what you're doing at the same time.

One need to be disciplined when it comes to doing exercises. I am just as busy if not more given my regional job responsibilities. I still find time to swim 30 laps daily even on weekends and public holidays. Disciplined is important! Start your exercise 1st thing in the morning and that is where you don't get interrupted as compared to latter in the evening where chances are you may be invited to dinner/drinks and the "oh I'm too tired from work" excuse kicks in.

I would love to play softball again yet there is no womans adult leagues that I know of :(
But yes I do go to the gym at least 4 nights a week, and I watch what I eat very very closely.

To keep myself fit, I just go for a walk. I get it very relaxing. I don't like to go to gym at all.

I by no means do as much sport sport as I once did before. I used to play handball and also took part in badminton while I was younger. I was even close to sign to a football youngsteers team for once but have decided to reject in the last minute. Nowadays I just normally go for some jogging.

I'm not a keep fit freak but I do go for a walk each day.
Before I moved up here to the country I used to go to a Tai-Chi class twice a week which I enjoyed a lot and I even got involved in the demos the class did. But since I've moved here I cannot find a decent class so I had to give it up. Its surprising how much energy you use whilst doing it yet it looks so easy.

I am a stay at home mom, and dont have anybody to watch the kids while I go to the gym, however I have learned cleaver ways to exersize while I am cleaning or playing with the kids. I do leg lifts while I am doing the dishes, use my kids as weights (they love that one), dance while I am dusting, ect. I realy want my kids to get into sports so they can get a good start on being fit and not worry about loosing 100 pounds like me.

Every day, we walk the 1 mile to the park, play at the park, and walk the 1 home. On good saturdays, we walk the 1.5 miles to the beach, swim and walk home. If it's raining or snowing, we have a YM/YWCA membership and we'll go there for swimming or something, but for ATLEAST 1 hour of every day, we are active. Swimming, walking, anything that gets our hearts pumping.

Saying you have no time to exercise is but an excuse and it means lazy. Pull yourself up, prioritze your time and I'm sure you will have time for exercise. I'm just as busy as you are because of my regional responsibility but I still find time to swim 30 laps daily. All that I need is priorize and give up some of my sleeps ever on weekends and public holidays. Disciplined is important.
