Why do people who know they can't win American Idol audition?

I really don't understand this. On Larry King last night this woman who had auditioned and been rejected was complaining because she had to wait 35+ hours for her audition and then was treated badly by the judges, but why was she there anyway? She said she knew she didn't have a chance, that she wasn't that good, but was doing it for the experience.
One of the reasons she was there so long was that there were probably thousands of others there who shouldn't have been. So, what is she complaining about? Also, she wasted the judges time, so why shouldn't they be a little irritated with her?

I think they just want to be seen and heard and publicly recognized, LOL. they know whe they get on that show, that they are going to be judged and insulted, most likely. LOL, if I knew I didnt have a chance, i dont think I would have audiotned to begin with. I think I would have saved my self the embarrassment. I do believe that Paula, Randy and Simon are burnt out from judging though and they are just there for the publicity also and that money LOL.

Since the days of William Hung, AI have been a platform for fame seekers. It doesn't matter if they can sing or not but more importantly to make themselves known to America.
What is sad though in my opinion is for those who REALLY are there to seriously participate but thanks to the thousands of fame seekers, they would have to waste hours of their time just to get to the audition.

As soon as I saw the heading for this post Williams name came to mind. I think that because he has a couple cds out, people get the "if he can do so can I" mentality.

I am quoting Jay Leno of the Tonight Show, from his show last night..."No one forces these people to audition." They do it all on their own, mostly out of a narcisistic need to prove they are better than someone else. She has no room or reason to complain. If she didn't want to wait, she could have left at any time. These people need to take responsibility for their own actions, grow up, and quit blaming others. Sorry, just had to rant about it. It's ridiculous for these "potential contestants" to complain about waiting, or that the judges were "mean". They made the active choice to go through with the audition.

I think people should have evaluation form few honest friends before even getting into audition. Most of tham are terrible. I don't believe they show up and complain. There is nothing to complain about.

because somebody tells them they're good and they're not so they think they arew really good when they go in and they're not so the judges reject them

I agree with you! These people who expect some pointers from the judges or whatever need to be slapped! LOL That is not their job or their responsibility! They want to hurry and get on with the business at hand. I agree the judges can be rude, but you know what, sometimes they need to be! LOL Now, I do not agree with them attacking someone's physical appearance. I mean, like that guy with the big eyes and he was called a bushbaby. That was rude...this guy can't help the way he looks..it's the way he is. BUT...when they say things like "that was awful" and "singing is not for you" and other rude things, these people deserve that. They can't hear that they are tone deaf???!! LOL

I'm glad you brought that up. The physical insults really need to stop! I just told my daughter this morning, when you insult someone's appearance or something else they have no control of, you're the one that looks bad. I believe this too. When Simon bad mouth's people based on the face that God gave them I think he's showing his true dark nature. It's just not cool and shouldn't happen. He's like a bully on the playground who never grew up.

That drives me crazy. American Idol judges are being critized for "picking" on these people, but they know from previous seasons exactly what is going to happen when they get in front of them. They sign the waivers. They know that Idol is looking for a singer an someone who is promotable. These people need to get over themselves. Take respobsibility for their actions and move on.

I think they do it just so they could be on T.V and I think that is just crazy.

i probably agree with the judges. most of the ones they show, they judges pretty much hit it on the nail. i mean, sitting there for hours listen to lousy person after lousy person with a few good ones here and there, but probably most of them bad. i would have gone off if she really didn't think she could make it. they just want their 15 seconds of fame. its stupid, but good tv.

I think many people audition on American Idol for the publicity and attention when they know they don't have the talent. They want that few seconds of "fame".
I personally think the best part of American Idol is the auditions and watching people make a fool of themselves. These people may not have talent but they are entertaining to watch.

I agree they are entertaining! For me the only part of it that's not entertaining is watching some of them blow up in anger after leaving the audition. Seems immature to me and if the judges thought they had any talent at all, possibly might accepting them the next season, that chance is no doubt lessened when they storm out in a rage or say something stupid to the camera after leaving!

if i were friends with people who didn't know how to sing and who were planning to go and audition, i'd stop my friend for his/her sake! i don't really know how they're able to muster all that confidence to sing in front of national tv... in front of simon! i mean, wouldn't your parents, friends, or family tell you that you're not fit to sing in front of simon? just to save you from embarrassing yourself

Its because people beleive that they have a chance to win the thing. The human brain will always go for easy money and many people go to american idol for easy money and fame.

I think that people just want to get on tv so that people think they are cool or that they can brag to their friends about being on tv and meeting the judges up close. Some of them are so into themselves that they think they can do anything. I know that I would not audition since I do not have singing voice at all. It is funny to me to see them make fools of themselves and then get the responses from the judges that they get. You can't blame them for trying though as you never know unless you try and usually Paula and Randy are soft and let people get by who should not get through.

I know there are some people who don't know that they can't sing. They must not have an ear for music. I spoke with someone who auditioned for Phantom of the Opera so I asked him to sing for me and I tried so hard not to laugh... he thought he was great.

I don't get that. You'd think he would have taped himself singing and played it back and heard what you hear. If you've ever heard yourself on tape you know that you sound different to yourself on tape than you do in your own head. I think maybe some of these people haven't considered this! lol

Just look at William Hung. You don't need to win to be famous.
