What Would Be Your Ideal Home?

I don't mean where you live now, unless that's the house you've always dreamed of.
I would like a five-bedroomed house, with acres of land around it, a stream running through the bottom of the garden, and with a walled garden, where I could sit, away from the house, and read.
I would like an old-style house, maybe Elizabethan, with wooden beams on the ceiling, and plenty of pine furniture. I'm not keen on carpets so it would be good to have waxed wooden floors as well. I would like to have a library, absolutely brimming with books and a sumptuous living room with an inglenook fireplace, and a dog basket (for burning logs). Candle sconces would be on the chimney breast, either side of the fireplace and at many other locations in the house. Hanging from the ceiling, a wrought iron circular candle holder, which would hold about eight candles.
My wall garden would contain some sort of water feature, which would contain running water, because I think the sound of running water is so peaceful and calming. I would like to plant lavender in this garden, which is also relaxing and some mock orange blossom and honeysuckle, and have a herb garden in one small part of it.
The rest of the gardens would contain roses, and various other shrubs which attract wildlife, together with some wild flowers, like bluebells and foxgloves. I would love to have a walkway, similar to a pergola made from wooden poles, with roses and honeysuckle growing over them, from the walled garden into the wild garden, where the stream would run along the bottom.
Wow... I can dream on for ages. What is your perfect home? Would it be in the country, a town or a city? Would it have a large, small or no garden, a patio, or just a seat outside your window? Where would you chill? Would it be a large house with expansive rooms, or a flat, with lots or little space? Use your imagination and dream a little, and talk to me about your ideal home?

Your house sounds wonderful. Keep those ideas in your thoughts and one day you will have the house that you dream of having. That is a very detailed description, i'm impressed.
I plan on building a log home about 2500 sq ft on 2 levels. It might be near the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. It will be mostly wood on the inside, floors , some walls and ceilings. A combination of dark and lighter woods.
It will have a wood burner in the great room. I will be able to look out the expansive windows and gaze at the mountains. It will have 2 or 3 bedrooms, and 2 or 3 baths. Wood fixtures, and furniture, with some antiques, stone foundation, high ceilings, beautifully crafted rugs...everything.
Outside, it might be wooded or a yard with wild flowers. Little grass. Probably 1 or 2 decks and outside patio. It will be outside a small town , peaceful and quiet. Maybe on 2 or 3 acres. Love it.

Wow! Your description sounds wonderful too. I've always wanted to visit Colorado... I think it's a beautiful place. I don't know whether I'll ever get there though, because it's a little way from England. I've been to Oregon and loved it there.
Colorado has beautiful mountains and wooded areas from what I understand, together with lakes, and log cabins such as you would like to build. They have snow in the winter, and there are bears in the area. Wow, I would love that.
I hope you get this house of your dreams. My belief is, if you want or wish for something hard enough, you'll get it in the end.
Good luck and thank you so much for such a detailed and interesting response. I really enjoyed reading it, and could almost imagine myself there.
Brightest Blessings. :-)

Yes, you're so right, Sigma. It makes it all so much better when you actually find the site and build it yourself, I think. It gives you more satisfaction, and the chance to build it exactly how you want it.
I hope you get it finished soon, then, and have a wonderful life there. Thank you for coming back and checking on this discussion. I've really enjoyed it. :-)

My Dreamhome would be a little Cottage in the Country away from all the Polutions and noise and daily activity with a litle Garden at the back of it and a front Garden to
I would have loungers in the back so I could sit comfortable and read out in the Sun smelling the Roses that would be in my Garden all in different Colours listen to the Birds singing while my little Dog is running around in on the lovely green grass and at night I would sit out there and just watch the Sun set and the stars wake up

Awwwwww, Gabs. That sounds fantastic. I sit out in the summer evenings sometimes, and watch the sun set and stars and moon come up. It's nice when it's been hot all day, to sit out in the cooling air.
Keep dreaming and wishing and hopefully, some day you'll realise all that. Thank you for your contribution, my friend. Brightest Blessings.

Yes, that sounds nice Jamian. Perfect for a younger person, which I presume you might be.
I'm somewhat older and less energetic, but it would be nice to have some amusement, like a billiards room. That's a good thought.
Thank you for your contribution and Brightest Blessings.

A BIG log-cabin style house on a lake with a dock out back and a nice boat anchored there. Either that or a beach house, but definitely something by the water.

Wow, that sounds wonderful. I like water too. There's nothing better to calm one's soul, don't you think?
I have a friend lives right across the street from the bay of Mexico, on Florida's Pan Handle. She's in Fort Walton Beach and she and her hubby own a yacht, which they sail across to a small, uninhabited island in the bay, and enjoy a barbecue. Just the two of them... sounds great, huh?

ive dreamed of a big mansion where i have alot of rooms in it, a very big glass house motif :) I want me and my partner to stay there, happy and together. I want my family to stay there too.. My mom and dad and my very naughty sister. Ive dreamed to have a pool, just enough for a house party or a swimming part. I really want a luxurious house full of high-tech gadgets and stuffs. But that doesnt seem IDEAL :) that is above excellence. For me, if im going to have a house for me and my family and of course a house where me and my partner will live, i want it simple. because a home with full of love is far rich than a big big house with full of sorrows :)

A very true statement at the end there, Cuhkiz. However, it doesn't hurt to dream of your glass "palace". It gives you something to work towards in live.
Always believe, always love, trust and be honest with others and you will have a happy life, but keep your dreams in sight, my friend.
Brightest Blessings.

I would like a nice size family house but not really big. I would love to have three bedrooms, three or four bathrooms in case of having guests over, a big kitchen, a big living room and dining room, a game room, a workout room and my standard other rooms. Outside I would like to have a swimming pool and basketball court and a nice yard. I would want my house to be in the back of the neighborhood where I can enjoy peace and quiet and away from traffic. I would also love to have a garage and basement as well as a shed and attic for extra storage. I would have my own playground in the back for any children that wanted to come over and play.

Oh yes, that sounds really nice... and you have others in your thoughts as well, who can benefit from the realisation of your dream. That's a very commendable attribute, and one of which you can be proud.
I hope you find your dream home someday, for I know you will be happy there with other people, rather than rich and lonely. Have a good life, Kgwat.
Thank you for your wonderful contribution to this discussion. You've pretty near brought tears to my eyes. Brightest Blessings dear. :-)

Yes, maybe I have big dreams, but my life is such that I'm happy with what I have to an extent. However, life is no challenge without a few ultimate dreams, and this is one of mine.
Yours sounds similar, but a couple less bedrooms. lol. I love the phrase "babbling brook". I can just visualise it.
Thank you very much for your contribution, Femcsw. I hope you find your dream home, and Brightest Blessings to you.

My ideal house would have also 5 bedrooms, a huge living room/dinning room area, all opened space, an amazing kitchen with stainless steel counters, oven, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, etc. The bathroom would have a jacuzzi, and of course, me and my hubby would have our own private bathroom with jacuzzi. It would also have a gym, with all equipements, a fireplace in the living room, big windows, kitchen all blue and stainless, a lot of land, with an in-ground swimming pool. Wow...it's nice to dream!

Yes, it's wonderful to dream. I think that's what keeps us going in life. Your dream home is very similar to mine, and I really like the sound of it. I would love a large dining area too.
Thank you very much for your contribution... very detailed, and I hope someday you will find your ideal home. Brightest Blessings.

Wow! Your dream home sounds wonderful! Very similar to mine except the outside of my home would be a log home with huge windows in the front to look out over our land. The inside would have the wooden beams and pine furniture and would be very rustic, yet beautiful. Definitely there would have to be several fire places, one in the family room and one in our bedroom.
Outside, I want a pond outside the front windows with a fountain and some fish. I want lots and lots of flowers...
We would also have a barn with horses, so that we could take nice long trail rides through our land. We'd want at least 100 acres so that no one was near us and we had as much privacy as we wanted.
Yep, this is definitely my dream home!

Yes, your dream home is definitely similar to mine, what with the beams, the pine, the rustic element, and the water. I don't ride horses, although I sometimes wish I had learned. I also dream of owning a Romany Caravan and a horse, so that I can travel around the countryside at a leisurely pace, and live a gypsy life, at least for part of the year.
Thank you very much for your contribution and I do hope you find your dream home. Brightest Blessings.

i would say my dream home is big witha pond and tons of fish in it trees everywhere so when you wake up there is fog on the ground lots of land to play and stuff on tennis courts and maybe something else on the side and lots of rooms just for one purpose like night looking room where the roof opens for a nice place to look up at the night sky or tan in the summer

What a lovely dream home. I like the idea of the Night Room, where the roof opens up to reveal a starry sky. Wow... nice imagination.

its like a fairy tail. a small town with nature blessing all the side. a smoke coming out, a small lake by the side, small grass all over .
large open air fields. where u woke up every morning with birds singing.
the interior of room will be a simple one. kitchen being the only happening room, as i like lots of cooking, floor and wall with different art form and wooden works and painting

Now here's a discussion I could go on and on about, but I will try and make it short and sweet.
I would love a house near the beach with ocean views, one storey or two storey it doesn't matter. Plenty of ground for my dogs to run around in, with lots of native wildlife plants and trees.
A patio for entertaining and barbeques, preferably covered.
Inside would have all the mod cons especially in the kitchen and enough bedrooms for guests to have their own space.
I will dream on. LOL.

I would love to have a big barn so I could do things in it.
Trouble is, I'm such a hoarder I will fill it up with junk in no time. haha

Well I've got a quarter acre of garden (or back yard as you would say) and that keeps me busy enough. Mind you, in high summer it does look lovely, even though I say it myself. A riot of colour and full of scent - a classic english country garden.
But I wouldn't say no to a few acres of paddock to go with my barn!!

I have found my inner self Ahtaysham, and I always find it when I'm free, in the countryside, or near water. Thus, my dream home is built on this. I am perfectly happy with my life at present, and what will be will be, but it never hurts us to dream. Money has no value to me, but my freedom and comfort does.
Thank you for your contribution, and I hope you find as good a life as I have. Brightest Blessings.

The house I have now is beautiful and is so close to my dream. I don't know that I would move even if the dream was offered to me.
That said, I want a log cabin in the woods. I don't want it too big as I would plan to live on the first floor with my significant other. I would like an open floorplan except for the bedroom and bathroom. Upstairs would be a loft for any guests, hopefully our children and grandchildren often! I want a rustic interior and a woodstove for our primary heat. I want a beauful porch I can sit on in a rocking chair and/or swing and look at the wood all around me. I don't want to see any roads except the little driveway that comes up to the house.
There would be a garage, but not attached. I would have a garden that I would fight with the deer to get the vegetables from. The deer would come out of the woods and I can sit on the porch and watch them. There would be flowers around the house and along the driveway.

Hmmmm... that sounds very pagan, Floating! Fighting with the deer for our vegetables, etc. lol.
It's good to read that somebody thinks they have their ideal home, already. It shows that it IS achievable and you can be happy in your ideal home.
However, the log cabin in the woods sounds like a great summer getaway place. Perhaps you could add it as such, and stay in your "almost ideal" place at the same time, maybe just in the winter.
I wish you luck, whatever you do. Brightest Blessings and thank you for your contribution.

For me there is no such thing as an ideal home, because, no matter how good it is, it could always be better.
Space, convenience, economy, reliability, are the four important things. Reliability is very important. I don't want the sewer to ever back up. But all homes have malfunctions, even if it's just a rain gutter overflow or a broken brick that lets ants in.
All homes would be better with more economy. Lower cost maintenance, less waste of utilities, etc. All would be better with more convenience. The refrigerator close enough to a big enough kitchen counter to easily move stuff in and out, the dishwasher doing a better job and doing it faster so you never have to wait for it, the dining room closer to the kitchen, the heating and air conditioning easier to operate and get the most desired temperature in all the rooms, the closets all in convenient locations and with plenty of space, etc., etc. And space is the biggest factor in how good a home is. Having plenty of space is something most homeowners and homeowner wannabees dream of. And no matter how much space they have, they can always find reasons why they would rather have more.
So there is really no ideal home. Just a fantasy home that has infinite space, infinite convenience, infinite economy, and infinite reliability.

Quite an interesting aspect there, Eric, although it sounds a bit defeatest to me. What's to say if you lived in the country, in a remote spot, that you couldn't be self-sufficient and conveniently efficient at the same time?
Of course there is an ideal home for most people. We have our dreams and nobody, or nothing can burst the bubble if we want it badly enough. But I don't think you're a dream follower. You might do well to relax and meditate a little, if I might suggest so.
Thank you for your response, and Brightest Blessings to you.

A good point or two Eric. I'm really pleased that you already have your ideal home, and that you feel you can still make improvements to it.

Ok, I omitted location, by mistake, as one of the factors in how good a home is.
If you have the perfect location, and otherwise have a convenient, economical, spacious, reliable home, then you might have your dream house. Because, having a perfect location, no other location in the world could be better.
But if you aren't in the perfect location, then no matter how perfect your home is, you can always find a better one. Just think of finding the exact same home in a better location. That alone makes it better and proves it wasn't already perfect.
And I'm not defeatist to always want a better home. Defeatism says you can't even find a home you want. I just mean that no matter how good a home you end up with, there is still room for improvement. You can have your dream home, but you always know there is something better our there. Except in the one situation where you have found the best location in the world and no other location can replace it, no matter how much better the home itself is.
Besides, I already have my dream home. But I just recognize the fact that I can have more than one dream, and no matter how good a dream home I have, I can still dream of a better one.

Hi, I'm currently in a flat, which I love as I have a terrific view over the city! If I could have a dream house, it would be near a cliff overlooking the sea as being a fire sign, the sea has a very calming effect on me! It would be ultra modern with lots of glass and open spaces so I would have a panoramic view, I would love a japanese garden and some decking for sunbathing! Oh and it would have to be somewhere warm too!
