according to studies, every persons need for sleep depends on his age. children need at least 8 hours to 12 hours of sleep at night. adults need 8 hours of sleep. on one hand, oversleeping is not good. it will give you the same effects of not having enough sleep if you oversleep everyday. in one study these are the effects of oversleeping:
1. Difficulty falling asleep
2. Wakening during the night
3. Waking up too early
4. Not feeling refreshed after waking up
5. Daytime sleepiness
i hope these help.

Eight hours is the standard rules to be really well rested when you wake up in the mornings.

8 hours a day sounds like the appropriate time for full recovery in order to face a brand new day of hard work, if you ask me.

Sometimes more is necessary though. You never know when you're going to have one of those loooong days, you know...with extraordinary hours to work.
