We are in information revolution era but still dowry system is prevailing in many parts of India. How can one justify the practice of setting a selling price for the bride on the basis of education/job/social status of groom. This is ridiculous but is a painful reality even among educated and cultured indian folks. Girls should be able to take strong stand against dowry and say 'NO' to the greedy groom and his parents.

I am happy that at last some men have started to think about this. Yes this is a very wrong practice which should be cleaned out completely from our indian society. Girls should be given proper education and they should be self-depened. only then parents will not feel the burden of girls. Only then girls can stand against dowry system. And greedy grooms should feel ashamed of themselves for asking dowry. In straight words I can say ,grooms who ask for dowry are nothing , but big beggars........I am sure many will agree with me.

Maybe in time or someday that will happen somehow. You just got to be patient and wait. Nothing happens insteadly, things take time to work themselves out.

Well I suppose it sets the married couple up with a financial foundation to build on.
In africa, lobola is still paid on the bride and if it is in the form of goats and cattle then it is a great start in life.
By the sound of it, you object to a dowry but you don't object to the 'greedy groom' being chosen for you. Maybe the dowry is the least of the problems?

Yeah, dowry system is epidemic in India. In olden days, girls father or family give gifts to the boys family as a thanks and easy life of her daughter. People start giving more and more as time changes. Now Groom's family think dowry as their property and demand it.
This is really bad because boy is getting a bride, he also have to give dowry to bride family.

Yes . We need to do something on Dowry System . I hate this process. I mean to say this is not a maturity process. This is really not a educated process . World is going to forward like anything but we are very back @ dowry system ...... really embarasing . All together should do sometning to permanently stop this process..
