It is so so so very important. I don't think some people realize the importance. Not only do they learn things, it is quality time together, they respect the fact that you read, the practice is important to become a better reader, they will do better in school, they have to read their own directions to their work soon. Oh I could go on and on. Do you read with your child?

Reading with your children is so important. I have been reading to my daughter since she was in my belly. LOL. She is now a very smart four year old with a huge vocabulary for her age. I always get compliments on how smart she is.

We did that too, reading to them and talking to them while in whoom. Helps to start with the connection with our new child too.

I read with all my children. Now they are in their teens they still enjoy reading. I also enjoyed the quality time I would spend with each child by reading.

I do read with my duaghter. I totally agree with you on the benefits of reading toghether. I am a huge reader and I swore that I would do everything I could so that my duaghter was a reader too. It is never too young to start either. Now we read street signs as we are driving as well as sharing some great books together. reading also helps your childs imagination grow. The trick is to make it fun for your child so they don't end up with a hatred of reading because it seemed too much like work. But the rewards in the end are priceless.

I always read with my children. I am helping them to become better readers. It is very important to know how to read for school and for everyday life.

I'm only eighteen, so I obviously don't have a child. However, one of my fondest memories as a child was being read to by my parents...and later, being able to read along or read to them. This started a lifelong love of books and the English language, and is why I am an English major.

Yes, I read to my son every night for years and now he enjoys reading to this day ( he's 13yr now) I think I instilled a love for reading by reading to him when he was young.

yes, I read to my children. I have an 8 year old. And she reads her easy readers or phonics books to me. If I don't read to them at night, I read in the afternoon. I agree it is so very important. For my 8 year old, since comprehension is important at her age, I buy the workbooks, and she answers questions about the story. It's also important to ask what happened? what do you think? etc! Sometimes I don't think it is worth it...I guess we shall see in the future.

My baby is only 5 1/2 months old but on occasion I do read to him. Once he gets old enough, I'm sure I will do it all the time. Especially when he wants me to. I love reading books so I won't have problems reading to my kids.

When my son was younger we had a vast collection of books we would read togather every night that seemed like all he wasnted to to do. I enjoyed it very much. after he turned about 5 or 6 he didnt want me to read to him. In 3rd grade the teacher called me and asked if i knew that my son had chosen a rather tought book for his age and was reading it with out any problems and understood it.. I didnt know but i was very happy to know that it does pay off to start reading at an early age.

I don't have child but i think it a good practise to read with your child . First they can learn something new about the world , this will make the happy & being more intelligent as it will build up their mind. Similarly , it will tighten your relationship with them..so, it have to be always & done in continuity....OK http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/baby/babydevelopment/368.html

When my children were small even before they could talk, my wife and I began to read to them. Reading does so much for the child and the family. By teaching the child the importance and fun of reading before they are able to do so themselves, lays the foundation for them to want to be good readers themselves. Reading opens vistas that may never be attained in the real world. Reading to your children also builds a bond with them that you believe they are important enough to take time to read to them. Also, since children enjoy a good story, it will make them want to come and spend time with you later because they will associate your presence with enjoyment and learning.

Yes, i read to my son. Not only is it a nice way to learn, but it is also some nice bonding time. we snuggle up together in our chair and read during the day, then of course we read at night before he goes to bed. He has gotten so use to reading before bedtime, he tells me i cant go t bed yet mommy, we need to read a book.

I read to my sons every day. They have a million books, and we've read them all. I can't think of anything that my sons love more than story time with mommy. Reading is so important. I read at an early age, and I attribute it to my mother reading to me when I was small. From the moment they were born, I made sure to read them stories. WHen they were babies, it calmed them down, and now, they're in love with the imaginative world of their books. I couldn't be happier to say that I read to my children.
