We have a large fish tank and just added 3 new large gold fish. We now have a total of 7 fish. There aren't alot of plants and places for them to hide and I'd like to add some plant life to the tank. Any suggestions on what kinds of plants to get?

Java fern, java moss, sword plants are pretty good. I always like the banana plants too, they were kinda neat looking. As far as I know, I think goldfish tend more to dig up plants while they're scavenging then eat them. If you go with any rocks or such, just be sure there's no sharp edges anywhere on them.

Okay...it's a 150 gallon tank with 4 large goldfish, 2 large algea eaters and 1 African eel.

I am glad its 150 gallons, as goldfish can grow quickly. My only suggestion is to test your water to determine what plants would be best in your tank. This is easy to do and there are many kits on the market, if you don't have a fish store near your home or they tell you the water doesn't need to be tested. Good luck and hope your able to find some good plants for your tank.

Your right the big problem is goldfish dig up the plant, which is really hard on the plant, as it can't establish itself in the tank. They do nibble on the plant, which makes the situation even worse. The original poster didn't give us enough information about the type of water that is in her fish tank to know which plants would survive. I would like to know how many gallons of water and how many inches of fish are in the tank.

From what I understand goldfish will eat the plants. Then you will have little stubs! LOl. I have the plastic plants in my tank. Sometimes they drag those around.

They eat the plants? I didn't know they did that. Maybe I'll reconsider.

You might want to start with a few plastic plants and see if they leave thoseones alone, Many large fish dig in the gravel and uproot all plant life. If they leave those alone, than anything you take a fancy to woulddo as long as you realize they need extra light, and they grow, Instead of plants, I have stone structures that my fish can dart in and out of if they are being chased by other, more territorial fish. Good luck

Thanks. We have a few plastic plants and they don't seem to bother them much. Thanks for reminding me about the extra light.
