Did your kids go to preschool? Or do you have kids in preschool now? Do you think preschool is necessary? I work at a preschool and I think it's really important for kids to go and learn to be around other children. Even if they just learn basics like getting along with other children, sharing, participating and following rules and directions. They expect so much from the children in kindergarten now that they really need the head start that preschool gives them.

I agree! They have made kindergarten like it was first grade already!
They want the children knowing everything that I was required to know upon finishing k-grade!
I think preschool is very necessary! It teaches them the basics they need to know in k-grade but it also teaches them how to socialize. Oh, and following directions is another big thing that have to learn in re-school...I mean, the child is used to listening to the parent...but now they have to learn to listen to others while there are so many distractions!
My daughter that is in first grade did not attend pre-school because Florida believed at the time that only children with a learning disability should attend preschool (they JUST changed that). Then we moved to Oklahoma last year and my son attended pre-k.
I can say that I see a difference between the two children.
And just to add to that...I have seven children. So, I have seen a difference a GOOD pre-k can do. I say good because for some reason, it didn't have one of my kids are all...he had to do k-grade twice.

My kids had no use for preschool. We homeschool and so they were started in advanced kindergarten due to the time we take for basics. Single children would probably derive the greatest benefit for preschool and learning things to getting along with others. Preschool tends to have lots of germs so I would be really reluctant to send mine there anyway.

It's great that you were able to spend all that time with them to teach them the things they needed. I agree, a lot of preschool is socialization that would benefit only children. As for the germs, you get a lot of that in elementary schools too, so they might as well start building up their resistance.

My daughter is in preschool and loves it. She has learned so much in the time that she has been involved. It is really getting her ready for kindergarden in the fall. The pace of preschool is slow compared to that of kindergarden. It gives the kids a chance to learn their letters, numbers, shapes, colors, how to write their name, follow directions, think of others, and so much more before they get thrown into the race of all day school.

i just shift my course and study preschool education so that if i finish the course i will have my own preschool. this is very important stage in every child's life because children learn the basics in life during preschool. socialization is the best part of it because kids of their age learn from others kids like being a good sport, following simple directions and other courteous manners.

I'm not saying that all kids have to go to preschool. It's great that your kids did good without it. It helps when parents take the time to teach those things to their kids. Many don't. I just know that around hear they want the kids to know all that stuff you named, plus the alphabet, how to write their name.
