This is so sad about our little parakeet!

She's laid 4 eggs and keeps nesting on them! I feel so sad for her because they're never going to hatch. She's the only parakeet we have - no little male bird buddy for her! She's a rescue that showed up at our house one day about 3 years ago I think? I'm guessing she's probably 4 years old. I don't know much about parakeets, but do know I don't want to get a male parakeet and don't want any little baby parakeets! She's normally a pretty happy little bird - chirping and singing away. Anything I can do to get her mind off motherhood? I've taken out other eggs she laid, but she laid more!

Birds are funny creatures. My friend has birds that lay eggs and she just keeps removing them from the nest. I am not sure what that does to the birds moods, but she does it as soon as they lay the eggs.

When I cleaned her cage today I took the eggs out. I'd swear she was glaring at me! She seems fine. Was chirping and singing this afternoon. Eating and drinking okay too. I think next time she lays an egg, I'll just take it out right away so she doesn't have time to get attached!

I think that is a great idea to remove the egg as soon as you see it.
I was at the pet store the other day and there was a pair of cockatiels that had SO many eggs. She was throwing them out of the nesting box so they must have been no good. The lady cleaning the cages just swept them up and tossed them

I don't know a thing about birds, but I have a friend that I can ask. Maybe she'll know, she has 3 birds.

I would appreciate that. Maybe it's bigger deal to me than it is to her? It just seems sad that she's nesting on eggs that will never hatch. I *really* don't want any baby parakeets, so don't want to get her a mate. Overall she's a pretty happy bird. Thanks!

She has a cage full of toys! 2 little mirrors, one is a toy. 2 other toys she can play with too. She also has her cuddle bone (for keeping her beak shaved down) and a pineapple shaped mineral on the side of her cage. She prefers to be out in the livingroom where everyone is and the tv is. She seems happiest in the livingroom. She regularly chirps and sings.

Thanks for the idea, but I really don't want any baby parakeets.
