Just wondering what kind of Volunteer Work other people do? I do Volunteer work at my 7yo sons school. The children read to me every morning and goes for about an hour each day. I am going to ask if they need help in any other areas of the school.

I have done volunteer work with mainly children. I did some for a local op shop too. I have got references from all the places because I really think it will help with job placement in the future too.

oh yeha, definetly. you're going in the right track. Volunteering does not just benefit you but others too. Think about all the time you are going up to just helping out others. So even if you just volunteer to make yourself look good for jobs, try not to think of it that way. A lot of people would rather get paid doing the same thing you're doing but you just got to be committed and know that others need your help and support.

I help with the reading to in my daughters class. I can't do to much volunteer work at the school at the moment because I have a son, who is nearly 2 and sometimes he gets bored or distracts the children. I do enjoy trying to help out though.

Yes, I have other children too so I have to consider them when I take them with me. Its good though, because they ask me to come on excursions to help the teachers once a term. I dont have to pay for it either.

I didn't think about excursions, I went on 2 last year with my daughters class. It depends where they go if I can go on them because of my younger son, I have to take him with me. He was fine on these to excursions. He really enjoyed it.

It's good that you help children in their studies. Only few people are patient to do such things. Children really need to be guided. I had no chance to do such things as you are doing.

I do pro bono legal work, mainly in the area of immigration law. I also have just started volunteering with my husband at Habitat for Humanity. I'm looking forward to it.

My friends and I go to feed the homeless every week. We also gather clothes and give them later to the homeless too. It's cold here in winter (I live in Moscow, Russia), so people DO need a lot of clothes not to freeze :) I wonder whether I may call it volunteer work, but I have two penpals in orphanages, whom I send letters and presents :)

I have been volunteering for various things since I was a teenager. I used to tutor younger students during my spare time in high school. Once I graduated, I did volunteer work at the senior citizen center. When my children were small I helped out at their preschool, then helped with various activities at their elementary school. I have spent several years assisting a pair of blind girls with their shopping and other errands. Currently, I am doing some fundraising activities for to earn money for our local hospice. I guess I help out wherever I see a need, as long as I feel I have the ability to do what is necessary. I enjoy working with people so helping them is the type of volunteer work I like to do the best.
